1st Sanctioned Combat Jiu Jitsu Match

On February 6, 2012 the sort of "Combat Jiu Jitsu" was sanctions by the California state athletic commission. The first match was held on May 20th, 2012 and featured Erik "compella" Cruz from 10th Planet JJ VS Kris Gonzalez from Check Mat.

For those who care, the entire fight is about 15:00-18:15. The other 21 minutes of the video are entirely filler.

Cool hybrid imo.  It's interesting seeing how possitions hold different advantages when striking on the ground is involved. You get that in mma too, but you never know which way the fight is going to head in mma.  And in mma it seens like being on bottom usually translates to lossing and thus into gettting back to your feet.  I'm curious to see where the strategy in this sport heads.

Courage doesn't always roar. Sometimes courage is the quiet voice at the end of the day saying, "I will try again tomorrow."
