Sickle Sweep
Fri Aug 19, 2005 5:52 am
As a professional Mixed Martial Artist and pro-Boxer, Erin Toughill has solidified herself as one of the top female fighters in the game. With permission from Erin and taken from her site at ErinToughill.com In this technique, Erin demonstrates the Sickle Sweep.
Step 1
Now, Erin's starting in her opponents guard. Her opponent will try to break her guard... | Step 2
...by standing UP. Erin opens her guard and goes for a "tri pod" sweep. She will try to control her opponents wrists WHILE putting her LEFT foot FIRMLY against his RIGHT hip and putting her RIGHT foot FIRMLY behind his LEFT knee. She will try to sweep him by pushing the foot (that is on his hip) BACK while pulling the foot (behind his knee) FORWARD. The "push - pull" movement will get them off balance and land them on their butt. |
Step 3
The correct way to defend this move is for Erin's opponent to PUSH DOWN the leg (of the foot) that is behind his knee. | Step 4
As Erin feels that - she switiches her grip so that her LEFT hand grabs his RIGHT wrist and her RIGHT hand grabs his RIGHT ankle...@ the same time Erin's RIGHT leg sweeps behind her opponents ankle and her LEFT foot pushes his RIGHT hip. |
Step 5
Erin completes "sickle sweep", and pops up on her left foot by driving herweight up off her right knee. Erin also uses her grip with her left hand to hicth-a-ride when her opponent falls. |

That seems very very advanced... The directions were very clear though, so I will still try it tomorrow. How can you grasp the right ankle if it is so far away in step 4?![]()
Quantum Jim
Yup...Erin rocks.![]()
CombatChaz
This is nice, but it seems pretty difficult to pull off. has anyone tried it?![]()
Jeremy
I have used this one a few times, I have more luck with the first sweep, the one she calls the tripod sweep.![]()
CombatChaz
This move is a counter to a counter. She attempts the "tripod" trip. He counters by pushing down the leg. The hardest part is switching grips on the wrists AND grabbing the far ankle. If he had checked her left leg with his right elbow and passed over her right leg and dropped his left knee to the floor as he pushed the leg down, he would have done the complete counter and ended up in half guard. She could have completed a trip in step 2 and been good to go. ![]()
