Let Shinya Aoki Show You How To Choke Your Opponents

If I woke up in the morning and there just happened to be a magical lamp at the foot of my bed and when I rubbed it a giant, green grappling genie appeared and told me that due to the economy crises the normal three wish rule had been cut down to only one wish and then asked me, "What fighter would you most like to grapple like ?" I would probably say "Shinya Aoki please !!!"

One Legged X Guard Sweep To Ankle Lock

Lockflow loves leglocks. Look at the work L-O-C-K-F-L-O-W, it begins with a "L" just like "Leglocks" and L-O-C-K-F-L-O-W also has the work "Lock" in it. Coinsidence? I think not. Look at the upper left hand side of this page at our logo at guess what? It's a leglock. Whoa. Mind blown.

For some more mind blowing, check out this leg lock technique from UFC and Bellator alumni Roli Delgado.

One Way To Escape Back Control

Back control must be avoided at all costs. Not only is back control worth a large amount of points at grappling tournaments, it's also for many, the beginning of the end of the match. Watch this guy litererally, "flip out", to escape back control.

Thanks to our Facebook fan Abel Guzman for the heads up.

Leglocks and Positioning: A Case Study

leglock errors

Hey guys, here's an article I wrote for my site after watching a grappling match between Joao Miyao and Marcio Andre'. This article deals with incorrect positioning and common flaws when playing the leglock game. Enjoy!

Leglocks and Positioning: A Case Study

Grip Fight - Stop Arm Control From Foot - Jason Scully

Recently someone asked me a question about how he can stop his opponent from controlling his arm with their foot.

Basically, he was in their De La Riva guard and his opponent had a cross collar grip on them which was breaking their posture and they were using their foot to stop him from successfully using his left arm to help him work the pass.

This is actually a very common situation that happens a lot. This happens not just in the situation explained above but also when you are in your opponent's general open guard.

The Language of Madness--More Manic Mumblings of a Mixed Martial Mind

I love language.  It’s one of the reasons that I enjoy writing so much.  There’s just something about finding a medium through which we can communicate our thoughts and actions into common substance so that others can understand them.  Then I take this fascination and I add it to my natural love of the combat arts.

Armless Triangle Choke!

All grapplers should have a good triangle choke in their arsenal of techniques to use. The problem is, we all know the signs that it's coming and know not to leave one arm in. Here's a sneaky way to finish off the triangle and look like a ninja doing it!

Troubleshooting the Arm Drag

Matt Kirtley of Aesopian.com makes a special appearance in this edition of Artechoke in a Can!

As I continue to have my students drill finishing the rear naked choke from the back, paying particular attention to winning the hand fight that leads to the finish, we are resuming our exploration of paths to the back. Before we leave the arm drag behind, I wanted to cover some re-counters for common defenses to the arm drag from the butt scoot position, which is where most jiu-jiteiros will probably find themselves using the arm drag.

Tips and Tricks for Setting and Finishing the Rear Naked Choke

Thus far, we have discussed at great length taking the back, and though we've spent some time covering some often ignored back take opportunities, we have yet to really scratch the surface. For the most part, we have focused primarily on the arm drag as a means to making the transition to a back mount position.

The Sword And The Shield With James "300" Foster

James "300" Foster is not only a heck of cool guy, a lockflow.com member, a guy with an awesome haircut with the beard of power, a bad-ass competitor but he just happens to also be a great instructor. Check out this grappling concept video of Mr. Foster talking about his "Sword and Shield" method  for in your opponents guard defense and never be submitted from this position again.

Thanks to our friend Ari and Submissions101 for this video.

Get Ur X-Guard On

The very first time I saw 'X-guard' in action was in 2003 in Brazil when Marcelo Garcia made grappling history by defeating my then student Otto Olsen in the championship round of ADCC. Allthough it was dissapointing to lose that match, I did recognize the very slick technique of Marcelo.

Artechoke in a Can: 3 Back Take Opportunities You Might Be Missing

Every week, I film my no-gi class to help my students remember the material that we covered, and I am now making our class blog public to all so that everyone can benefit from some open source jiu-jitsu. I hope that Lockflow enjoys it. -Marshal D. Carper
