Take the Back and Choke with One Arm Choke off the Kimura Trap

Taking the Back off The Kimura Trap is one of the best attacks and provides for a very smooth flow.

This particular back take is also combined with the one arm choke, a variation of the rear choke that immobilizes both your opponent and puts him ready to tap. This is the same choke I used to tap out Tarsis Humphries at ADCC.

The Kimura Trap Against the Head Inside Single Leg

The Kimura Trap System is very powerful submission series that will have you hunting for Kimuras from every angle.

Using it to defend takedowns is one if it's strong points.

Check out how you can counter a head inside single leg and put your opponent "in the trap."

In my next video, I will show you how to finish the trap and get the tap.

What do you think about this?

I'm super excited to be able to share this with people outside of my academy and would love to hear what you have to say. At the very least, a TTT would do. Smile

*VIDEO* My Go-To Submission

I have mentioned before that I am a big fan of specializing

As the saying goes, "A Jack of all trades is a master of none."

I have been working on this particular technique for over 6 years now, and I am still making breakthroughs!

If you know me, then you it's name - the Kimura.

At a first glance, the Kimura is a very basic, white belt technique.

VIDEO* Smuggled Cuban Boxing Secrets!

boxing

Last year I had traveled to Cuba to train boxing (I did so legally from Miami to Havana).  Since 1972, Cuba has earned more Olympic medals in boxing than any other country in the world. The United States is a boxing powerhouse - but due to the embargo, Cuba's boxing techniques and training concepts are a secret to most American fighters.

*MUST KNOW* Front Head Lock Finish (Avellan Video)

The Pancake

This is an oldie but a goodie Smile

In wrestling, they have so many different names for this technique, but they all have the same end result - pinning your opponent to the mat.

The Pancake, the name I know it by, is a powerful finish from a front head lock. You can catch people's shots with this, or immediately after sprawling your opponent.

This takedown finish has scored me many victories throughout my career, and any fighter would be missing out on a simple but powerful weapon in their arsenal without it.

A Sneaky Submission I Learned from Sambo (Video)

Back in the day, we had one of the great sambo masters come to my academy, the Freestyle Fighting Academy.

It was more by accident that we managed to get him to teach an amazing leg lock seminar. Lot of weird and funny behind the scenes stories as well, LOL!

This sambo master was a UFC veteran of the old school - Oleg Taktarov!

He showed this leg lock from the bottom half guard which is super sneaky and easily done after going for a sweep, check it out

Super Unorthodox Single Leg Finish (Avellan Video)

I have a student of mine that has been with me for over a decade now that is somewhat of a legend at FFA. He is not your ordinary student - he is different.

He moves awkwardly, he goes for weird submissions that no one else does, and reacts in completely unexpected ways.

He is called Mantequilla, which means butter in Spanish. He gave himself this nickname when he left a drunken voicemail to my academy.

I told you he was different Smile

The WEC Choke by David Avellan

The WEC Choke

Guillotines are a powerful weapon to have in your arsenal. A proficient guillotine choker can strike fear into his opponents and make them tentative to shoot for take downs.

Guillotines are also relatively easy to setup and most people know the basic guard guillotine. This variation, which I call the WEC Choke, is a very fast and sneaky way of lopping your opponents head off. Take a look!
