My Chuck Norris Gloves---More Manic Mumblings of a Mixed Martial Mind

I can still remember my first pair of MMA gloves—I kind of made them myself.  They started out as a pair of Chuck Norris competition sparring gloves.  There are a few who read this who might actually know what I’m talking about.  They were big, bulky, and had a weird bar in the middle of the palm.

Garrett's Fight

"Despite the fact that he has Down Syndrome, 23-year-old Garrett Holeve has used mixed martial arts to find himself and become an MMA fighter."

Another Leg Break Gif

Mixed Martial Arts is a dangerous sport and there are many ways a fighter can win a fight. The fighters can win by Knockout, technical knockout, submission, chokeout, verbal submission, refferee stoppage or they can lose a fight by breaking their own leg. Yes, I said breaking their own leg. I know that sounds crazy but that is exactley what happened to Gustavo Franca in Brazil this weekend. So grab a giant glass of calcium fortified milk and watch this Gif or video at your own risk.

Escaping The Body Triangle

There is nothing worse than having someone on your back with the rear body triangle locked in.

I have seen many MMA fighters and grapplers become frantic in their attempts to break this grip. Most grapplers are familiar with the step over foot lock counter - but in this video, Professor Robert Biernaki of Island Top team provides us with a heel hook counter. Check it out and let us know what you think!

More Manic Mumblings of a Mixed Martial Mind--Passion

Sometimes I get to thinking, or I get to reflecting—I guess it might depend on your perspective.  So, the other day I was doing one of these two things and I started to remember back to my early days in the sport, back to the time before it was actually a sport.  Nobody really knew what BJJ was, and MMA wasn’t even a concept—we called the predecessors shootboxing and pankr

Paying Dues--More Manic Mumblings of a Mixed Martial Mind

I don’t watch all that many fights live, and I pay to see very few.  Usually, I’m either on the card or engaging in one of my favorite tasks—that of coach.  But I do remember, very distinctly, one particular fight card that I attended as a spectator.  It’s not that I’m necessarily famous, but it does seem like a lot of people kn
