40, 40, 60's

"40, 40, 60's" is a sprint drill that is designed to help increase explosiveness and muscle recovery. Basically, cones (or whatever) are set up at the starting point, 40 yards and 60 yards.

At the starting point, the runner will sprint as fast as possible to the cone at the 40 yard point and then jobg back to the starting point.

From there the runner will immediately spint the first cone again, and again jog back.

Then, the runner will sprint to the 60 yard cone as fast as possible and either jog slowly or walk quickly back to the starting point.

That would complete 1 "40, 40, 60". I like to have my guys do 10 sets along side eachother to force them to race eachother for more motivation.

Here's a video of the guys doining 40,40,60's in a parking lot that is slightly uphill as well.

  • Step 1
  • Runners start at beginning cone
  • Step 2
  • Runners sprint 40 yards to the 1st cone
  • Step 3
  • Runners reach the cone and turn to jog back to the Start Cone
  • Step 4
  • Runners reach the start cone and turn to sprint a 2nd time to the 1st cone
  • Step 5
  • Runners reach the 1st cone for a 2nd time and turn to jog back to the start cone
  • Step 6
  • After jogging back to the start cone, the runners sprint to the final cone set 60 yards away. They then jog back to the start and repeat.

we used to do all that shit in football. it works.

I don't like it but it's better then weighted stairs, now that SUCKS!!!

arg I hate those, like in hockey where we'd sprint skate to the blue line come back sprint skate to the red and abck then the 3rd blue then all the way around the goal and we'd hit the blue and back and so on until all lines were done. But yeah these are the drills u hate but need to be successfull... I gotta start doing it Sad

Hockey is a popular Canadian style of street fighting.

Sucks ass but works for great conditioning. I have my Soldiers do a variation of this 60 40 60 40. Sprint 60 seconds, jog 40 seconds, and then Sprint again 60 seconds. 40 second rest in place and do it all over again.

It's ok to be afraid as long as fear doesn't control you.
