Rolling Mount Drill

Here is a good drill for developing your top game. It is a positional drill and should be practiced with a cooperative partner.

  • Step 1
  • Eddie has mount on Alex
  • Step 2
  • As Alex rolls to his right, Eddie loosens up his mount and lets him turn - while maintaining a good base.
  • Step 3
  • as Alex gets to his right hip, Eddie brings his left foot up to Alex's belly as his right knee tucks into his back
  • Step 4
  • Alex then rolls to his back as Eddie drops his left knee - taking the back mount
  • Step 5
  • Alex continues to roll in the same direction, again Eddie lets him turn and comes up on his right foot as he turns his left knee into his back
  • Step 6
  • As Alex continues his roll to his back Eddie returns back to the starting mount position. from here, Alex could then roll the opposite direction and then the two partners could switch places

I have been the rolling opponent...lol...and my sparring partner was pretty good at maintaining control using these techniques. He never did show me how he did it, then again I was a little frustrated and didn't ask, Thanks Chaz!

Herbert Clark
