Ankle braces

Does anyone here have weak ankles? I twisted my left one a while back to a level 3 sprain, and just recently twisted my right pretty bad. Now I'm on two bad ankles. Any ideas on what I could wear for Jiu-Jitsu class so that I don't injure my ankles doing something? I was thinking like the Muay Thai ankle braces, but I don't know. Any help is appreciated.

You should be able to find some compression ankle braces at your local sports store.

I would also recommend consulting a physical therapist or a sports medicine doctor and ask about what you can do preventative wise. I'm sure that there are some ankle exercises you could do to strengthen whatever ligament or tendon may be giving you bad ankles. Sure, you might not develop invincible ankles, but taking some proactive steps can't hurt.

dude! i have weak ankles myself; genetics. then i injured em and made em worse. while playing soccer, one of the opposing players ran up, as did i. we both power kicked the ball; his foot slid off and clashed into my shin and twisting my ankled out of control. could've been worse but i abosorbed it a lil and rolled... and landed bad on the other... lol 2 twisted ankles and a bone contusion on the shin =\

anyways, couple months later the the trainer at my school told me i had to strenghten the muscles around it. Calf raises on some stairs, standing on my tip toes on one foot and keeping the other foot raised for a prolonged amount of time trying not to put it down or the heel of the other foot.

we also had resistance rope things anchored on and leg of bench or something and the other end around the top of the foot so that its taught. we put em on the toe at the 12, 3, 6, and 9 o'clock postions, then push and pull away, respectively, against the resistance. works all the lil balancing muscles.

also, before grappling stretch the calves good, that would make sense to me. This past wrestling season i tore my meniscus, so before every match i streched all the muscles around my knee (so all the legs muscles). I'd probably do it, too, for that injury just because the rest of the leg will affect it.

definately use the compression brace, too. You'll be more vnerable to ankle locks, but its a trade.

today my ankles are great. I'd see a sports trainer just in case anyway because you never kno.

How would a compression brace make me more vulnerable to ankle picks?

its like adding grip to your leg

i would just slowly try to strengthen it. calf raises maybe some light jump rope, jogging that kinda crap. im no doctor tho

Sporting goods store. My boy is gonna need some to I think, he is coming of 2 broken ankles, should be on crutches in 2 weeks.

compression braces work great during work outs and kickboxing they do help ive used them for years just make sure to get the neopren ones the cloth ones strech out to easy.

I have a bad right ankle. I tore some ligaments to where it is painful to sit in guard with feet flat. It sucks . I couldn't find any braces that would help that. To strengthen my ankles I have been jumping rope and doing plyo jumps. Of course you can't do those while you're hurt but they helped me get back and feel stronger.

the best ankle brace during the times you are injured and still want to roll hard is the lace up brace. you can tighten that sucker very tight and nearly exactly where you want it. I wouldn't screw around with any other kind of brace when injured.

Don't forget to ICE them often to help them heal. Taping them may help also. Wearing a good supportive shoe while not working out and range of motion exercises will help. Strengthen the ankle to help prevent further problems.

Get the kind that have the laces that feel like a plastic cast. Tell your training partners to leave your ankles alone for awhile. When your done working out perform range of motion exercises for your ankles then rotate ice and heat, end with heat.

ive tried this too ive twist my ankle. i cant do the training cause of the pain. my uncle which is a doctor told me to used some Physio Supplies like ankle braces and put some tape on. so that it well heal faster. when going back to my training always wear some braces and tapes.

hell yeah!!
