I know exactly where that school is I live about 15 minutes away....this guy is a joke. Asked him about MMA and Muay Thai in his school. He stated they teach "REALITY" fighting, not that softer "ring/cage-stuff". hahahaha
Oh and by the way this is a really cheap version of F.A.S.T Defense.

I don't get the "close the distance" part of it, especially against a knife. And if you get your attacker on the ground, why teach them to go for GNP?

Most fights do go to the ground, there are FBI stats saying the same thing. Also if you look at street fight videos with two untrained guys, it always gets in the clinch and eventually the ground. Even catfights end the same way.
I'm just saying, if a woman was about to get raped/kidnapped, and she manages to get the attacker on the ground, why not just draw and empty the cylinder into him, (magazine if she trains), and pop smoke? Why get into his guard? Big John McCarthy isn't going to be there to stop the fight, might as well stop this asshole from creating other victims down the line.

i always teach my girl and kids that.fight for your life right then and there.do not let the attacker get you in his car.9 times out of ten he will kill you.i teach them that they have a better chance to fight the attacker.do not go with him.most attackers are out of shape.and they thrive on fear.never show fear.thats how they get you.fight for your life.scream yell go for the balls.if you die.at least you didnt die after being raped.most attackers dont want a fight.they want a easy target.so never show fear and fight for your life right away.and when your in the streets.be aware of yor soroundings.be leary of the people around you.its a bad world.and shit happens when you least exspect it.

That's a cool video. Gabe Suarez does some interesting stuff with integrating emtpy hand, knife and pistol fighting for self-defense.
You might be careful bandying about the "most fights go tot eh ground" thing. The research doesn't nessiciarily say that and the studies are mostly done by local PDs.
If you like Suarez's gun stuff, you should find the video he does with the dog brothers.

What is the legality of charging somebody for teaching them self defense when it could never work? There must be some way to shut down places that do this nonsense. Those girls are all screwed if they think that's gonna work for them......I mean, the first three minute I thought it was a fan trailer for a new Tron movie.

Crazy. I was working with the YWCA for a while to help coordinate like...campus sexual assault measures, I guess, with groups like the YWCA and police, etc. I got this huge packet of information about sexual assault from the DOJ and it shows that .07% of assaults are "blitz" type attacks like the things they're trying to simulate in the video. Close to 90% of assaults are by people that girls know. We should start a school that teaches that to people.

Some of the stuff I';ve seen of Gabe's changed the way I carry a weapon and the way I approach deploying it.
Also, if the data about "fights going to the ground" was compiled by police departments, then I'm betting that it is biased towards grounding since police generally attempt to get a suspect on the ground to maintain control or limit mobility. So cops saying most fights go to the gound is like a Marine saying most gunfights involve bullets.
"Die Less Often 1 and 2" are great vids for self-defense and practical street combat for LEOs and anyone who carries a concealed weapon..

i read somewhere that the LAPD did the "study" on the percentages of fights going to the ground. my guess is, that number is over inflated when compared to good ol' redneck scrapping.
it may also be perpetuated to fill up bjj schools.

There's the only halfway research article I've ever found on the subject. There's some other numbers on sexual assault, which tends to go to the ground a lot (for obvious reasons).
Die less often is what I was thinking of. I'd also recomend Rory Miller's Meditations on Violence. I'm rereading it now to do a review on my little hobby site.
