Honestly I'd rather sprawl than attempt a sacrifice throw style sweep. Great technique, but too risky against good guys. Example = Good guy stuffs sweep, ends up in top and establishes control.
\
I like the wrenching and fatiguing effect of the sprawl. Sprawl: I merely thrust my hips into them and allow bodyweight and gravity to break their control. Opponent's neck gets cranked and they end up in front headlock position or simply turtled underneath me bearing all my weight.

I'm only 140 lbs and I need to fight really smart. I got a great bottom game, but I don't want to start the fight under a heavy opponent, especially a heavy smart good opponent. A lot of these big guys teaching techs have no concept of what its like to be a little guy attempting them on a giant coming for their head.

Funny,I used this at a grappling tourney last weekend and was making a vid detailing it for someone who asked me to break it down.
nothing is 100% that's why you need a B and C plan. But this is a sound technique. One I and most of my fighters use very often.

Seems like a decent plan c for me, getting over-powered (beaten) technique.

Plan A : Sprawl (Forward Pressure)

Plan B : Push Head Down (Break Posture)

Plan C : Drop/Sacrifice Hook Sweep

One counter that came to mind when thinking about this situation was pulling on the arms and kicking the trapped leg to the mat. Dealing with a captured leg, I'd use this sweep as a last effort to avoid points.

We should make March takedown month or takedown counter month.

Another benifit to moves like that is the "What the fuck was that" factor. Everyone expects a sprawl, sometimes move like that catch people totally off gaurd. especially when they feel they have a dominant positioin. I've got a throw I work from doubble overhooks that catches people I grapple with all the time.

When in doubt the left hook comes out.
