i have been out for a couple of weeks with a touch of bronchitis. i got back on the mats for the first time last night and i swear i went completely dumb during a heavy roll. it was almost as if the MIB came through and flashy thinged me. just a whine i guess but it makes me realize how important consistency is in training. my self defense techniques and reaction time suffered severely as well.

if you cant beat them, arrange to have them beaten.

I took about 2 years off so I know what you mean. 2 months in and I'm still shaking off the rust. Don't just go back to heavy rolling, do positional drills instead.

It is what it is, with or without your reaction.

I got that feeling the first time i went back to the gym and started sparring again after being away at school and not having sparring partners. Definitely sucks, for sure. I agree with myke7777, gotta ease back into things with drilling, get the mechanics back first. As they say, gotta crawl before you can walk.

When students ask me questions i can fire off answers but sometimes rolling i forget to throw certain gi chokes or counters. For intance i always forget the bull pass counter...but i know it very well and its simple.
