Wow!!! That tattoo has got to be almost half the size of his ego..... Do you realize how HUGE that is???!!! Lol. I wonder how much time he spends each day using the "two mirror" trick to stare at his own tattoo...
Great fighter, douche bag of a person.

Is his own name really at the top? That totally kills any coolness of that actual art.

And isn't the Japanese warrior imagery a little over used, especially for fighters?

the name on his back throws it off for me too. Great work, must be expensive.

k-mo, I have to disagree with your last comment. A friend went to his gym when he was training for the second Lesnar fight. He was extremely accommodating and very friendly. He talked with her before training and signed autographs and posed for pictures afterwards. She was able to watch his entire training session. She said he was very nice. I will agree that he comes off as arrogant on TV.

Japanese warrior imagery probably is overused by fighters but it is to be expected. I mean what other tattoo art is more attractive to a fighter than that of warriors? To me, traditional japanese tattoo art is always cool. I have a few pieces that are in the works myself. In any case there are plenty of styles and images that are associated with certain social groups. Take military personell for example, tattoos in the military have been recycled for generations but it is expected and acceptable.

At this point, what tattoo style isnt overused really? There isnt much left to explore LOL.

When its all said and done Ill have a little of it all. Japanese, tribal, military, celtic and whatever else I take a likeing to.

I may be mistaken but I believe that Mir has his last name tatted on his right arm as well, in the middle of that tribal band.
I would assume that he is going to have that one covered, at least I hope, now that he has decided to get ink on a larger scale. At least that is what happens with most people, including myself. You start off wanting a small piece but graduate to back pieces, half sleeves, full sleeves etc. and decide to cover up smaller, more insignificant work. My first tattoo is embedded in a half sleeve now.

I have to second the douche comment, if only to help a stranded lockflow'r. Mir certainly HAS come off as a bit of a rip-roaring-jag-bag since he started marketing himself every time a camera came near. The stuff he has said about Fedor needing to retire and disappear, etc...that was moronic. When he said Nogueira almost dying a week before their fight was a "sad and pathetic" excuse for losing, that was ignorant.

He has become really, really arrogant in the last year. Still a good fighter and I've been a fan for years, but he's been ridiculous lately.

Mir seems to have a split personality at times. One interview he seems humble and doesnt talk himself up and the next one is a total self-promotional stab at every HW on the planet.

Like in his latest interview where he gives Carwin and Velasquez all these great comments...totally different when compared to previous interviews, where he always talks himself up etc.

Its fun watching him fight b/c, like many other modern fighters, he seems to improve with every fight and is constantly learning from his mistakes but he lets it go to his head WAYYY TOO MUCH!

Tap, the reason why I think that the tattoo is based off of the shirt is b/c the rhino is the trademark figure for Echo Unlimited clothing.

However, I could be wrong and maybe Mir came up with the rhino concept on his own which just happend to fit in with his clothing sponsor.

I have a warrior/samurai on my back also. I thought a long time about it. Maybe it's over done but what else would I have done? Tribal? Panther? Devil? Dragon? Those would have all been very unique. Smile

My point exactly. A person is going to be attracted to ink that reflects their style.

Thanks Bullet eater! You know, all of these fighters.... well, most of them probably have a nice side somewhere and Mir just might have one too. All I know is what I have seen of him on t.v. Is that a fair judgement? Absolutely!!! It's his marketing tool to get hype and get paid. Most people, IMO, tune- in to see if Mir gets to eat his words.... not to see him do awesome. If he is going to portray himself this way, then he is going to be seen that way. Also, see Matt Serra for more information about this topic. He calls GSP a Frenchie and tells him to go play hockey... Then wonders why canadians are pissed at him.
Side note.... since when did commenting on WEC fights become the "what frank mir would do" show??? Last fight I watched was nothing but "I would grip his arm here, take him down, scream my own name, and submit him." lol!

Im sure its not easy being a competitor acting as a spectator. He does a fairly good job of educating the uneducated WEC fan base at least.

I'd rather hear an intelligent fighter tell me what he'd do, than hear 99% of MMA commentators out there.

+1, Bas was the best and he would always call it as it was. If a fighter was stalling he would call it and criticize it.
