Now buchecha. In fact I trained with Buchecha like 1 1/2 years ago when hgyms in Miami and he was maybe 200-205 lbs. he just won the worlds at ultra heavy. Which to me says he's around 240 . My question is twofold.
For guys that Mostly train bjj, how are they getting so big???
Look at roger and jacare. Neither of these guys are weightlifters. Buchechas neck looked like it was about 19" .
I've seen Jacare at the 24 hour fitness near my home in LA. I'm pretty sure most of these guys lift weights, I don't see how you couldn't at that level without being at a huge disadvantage. That said...I'm in almost the exact situation as Alpha. When I started bjj I was 145-155 and now I'm 175 and rarely lift. All those burpees over the years have paid off!
I guarantee you the top guys are "eating horse meat" by the truck load.
I agree with LSBJJ look how big Andre Galvao's head got over the years. That is a common side effect of "horse meat". Also I guarantee most of those guys lift weights.

Look at the size of that boy's heed!
hahah How do you think?
Horse meat as you call it is not illegal in Brasil...
lmao i really hope horsemeat eventually becomes the new slang for steroids...
You still need to lift. Horse Meat won't magically make you stronger and bigger but it does help you recover after hard workouts.
Miklo - Its definitely becoming part of my vocab. I used to call them astroids because that's what my brazilian professor called them but I definitly prefer horse meat now.

Not entirely true, Vitamin S works wonders even without exercise. I'm not positive on the study name, this image was shared on another forum, but the results were that people gained more lean muscle by eating horse meat and being sedentary than they did with moderate exercise. I think the real takeaway was intended to be how effective it was for gaining mass with p < 0.001 since the error bar on the horse meat without exercise is so large, but it does imply that there are definite gains to be made just taking it without weight lifting let alone with high intensity workouts like BJJ and judo.

Do you know where that study came from? I'd be interested in reading it. I wasn't arguing that its not beneficial to an athlete just that for that kind of gain you still need to be lifting.
Awesome clip Mr. Bungle I forgot about that movie..."It's like an Orange on a toothpick"
I'm not kidding, it's like sputnik. Spherical, but pointy at parts.
Horse meat will build muscle in untrained elderly people, people with AIDS, or kids who won't go into purberty. . Any study you read in done in the US on steroids in only done on these 3groups. Because the medical usuage of AAS is to prevent muscle wasting. In groups like these pretty much anything be it working out, food, or AAS will make a huge difference. But for a healthy young man taking AAS will not make you huge without working hard and having the proper diet and rest.
Nit bodybuilder huge but I know a few guys (some bjj guys) that definitely got bigger and more muscle by taking horse meat, and they definitely were not lifting weights . The only thing I've seen galvao do is barbell complex and powercleans with 95 lbs. and some sandbag and bodyweight work. These guys definitely are at golds gym doing a bodybuilding split.
Today I learned about horsemeat. lol

Well, personally I started BJJ I was about 150-155. 3 years later Im a solid 175, and pretty dang toned now and Ive barely done anything else.
Im sure they still do some outside strength training.
