Clarification for Video Above:
Interesting idea but where you are gripping to produce leverage is not so much about whether there is muscle or not, it’s how far from the fulcrum ( persons core ) you are pulling or pushing from and the angle at which you are pulling/pushing.
You have more leverage pulling/pushing on the arm from the elbow, wrist or forearm as opposed to the tricep because they are further from the persons shoulder which would be the fulcrum in the example not because the tricep has more muscle.
A persons arms & legs are weaker the further away you push/pull from their torso. You have the greatest leverage at the end of a persons arms or legs.
As far as angles are concerned, people are weakest on a 45 degree angle.
Hey Jason Mallory, you are exactly correct. The reason I explain it the way I did in the video is because I teach on video the same way I teach in class. I try to keep it simple and direct. As soon as I start using words such as "fulcrum, distal, proximal, etc...) people look at me like I'm an alien and they zone out.
When I use the description of muscles and joints which all people are aware of. They are like "oh ok" or they say "huh, never thought of that". It just so happens that wherever there is a joint that is the high chance you'll be at then of the lever and further away from the fulcrum. So I stick with that explanation.
I've have a good amount of people giving me flack (I don't mind though) for not explaining it the scientific bio mechanical way, but that was expected.
Thanks for the reply.
I can appreciate keeping it simple but it's better that people understand why something works. Take out the word fulcrum in my explanation above and it's pretty simple.
Thanks for putting in the work.
True...the why is good to know as well. I usually do well with explaining the why in my other videos. I'll add a video on that too. Thanks!
I added some video for some clarification...hope it helps
Jason
Good clarification Jason.
Jason
