The difference between UK and USA grappling
Hi, Im a Judo player who runs http://thegrapplingreview.webs.com// which is a site dedicated to reviewing grappling products to help save people cash by providing honest feedback on grappling dvds etc.
Im just after thoughts from people about the difference between the standard of grappling in the USA and the UK. I train in Judo but have also done a little BJJ but at the moment Im training at Urmston Judo club. This is a club which is a bit like that block offlats in Kung Fu Hustle. Its full of ex and current masters of the sport. I was standing in the club last night and I was in a room of say 18 fighters and I was the only one who had not been in a International squad. These guys are simply amazing. Their ground work is beyond belief and we have former World Master champs, VI world champions, Commonwealth medalists and ex world championship fighters. Its dificult to imagine fighters any better than these guys, bearing in mind most of them did this full time for years and went all over the world.
Just after getting peoples points of view about the standard of grappling in the USA compared to UK. Has anyone rolled with the top guys in the USA and what were your experiences of them and how good they were.
Thanks
yh yh, I meant the difference in standards. just after people opinions
I've never been to the UK but my guess is there are great schools and suckfest schools just like in the USA. I know Roger Gracie and Marcio Laudier "Mamazinho" both have schools in London and both are BJJ phenoms.

well, i have noticed that UK gets longer holiday and more free time then USA. Work/job/business is a different animal in terms of priority. i guess if you had more free time, it would only make sense that you could train more....but honestly i have found that in terms of mma (of corse im spoiled in western WA) usa is fantastic.
for the sport of mma, i think usa is the place to be.
as far as standards go, it can be tough.
i found first hand that most schools iv been to who claim muay thai, do not train athentic muay thai- but train it for how muay thai relates to mma and i like that better.
when someone like rickson gracie focuses on basics because although we all know 5-6 different mount escapes, have we really mastered any of them? i personally like to have options, but i know my basic upa (sp?) could use work.
never trained judo traditionally-not to say i dont throw people once in a while- but it sounds like you found a good club, if it fits you keep up the good work.
