That's AWESOME!

Who doesn't love having a "I took the fight on a moment's notice" story under their belt?

Listen. Don't freak out. Approach this just like you would a weekly workout.

Stick to the basics and have a gameplan. In other words, think about 2-3 techs that you want to set up and execute and focus on that.

The rest is gravy mate. Go have fun and let us know all about it later, OK?

Do your best!

haha ok funny story. im taking my motorcycle safety course test, and the guy that runs the event calls me like 4 times but of course i cant answer on a motorcycle. so when we are done around 5:30 i call him back and he's like "how soon can you be here?" so i dash home and grab my stuff, yell at my parents to go to the place where it was, and leave 5 min later.

i get there at like 6:10, start warming up and don't end up going until like 7:30 or something. but anyways on to the fight...

Note- this is all how i remember it. i had some adrenaline going and i cannot remember everything exactly as it happened, but i should have a video fairly soon to reference and show you guys.

1st round - he shoots, grabs a leg, I sprawl. i managed to pull out and force him onto his back and i get mount. i tried like 3-4 times to get a forearm choke as he was shutting down any attempts to set up an armbar. he managed to sweep me once (crowd went wild, we were in his hometown), though I swept him back about 20 seconds later. round ends with me in mount.

2nd round - we tie up, grab at legs and what not, when he straightens up and i see a perfect opportunity for a throw. now this is odd cause when im rolling in class i usually hesitate too long to get the throw but here I don't. i stepped out wide and threw my hips in and got a nice deep hip throw. I go right to side mount (and he starts swearing), and try to set up a keylock. or maybe a kimura, im not sure of the difference. so after much trying, and switching fairly easily from side mount to mount and back again, I get a keylock locked in and start cranking... only then i forget all about my base and he sweeps.

i tried to finish it off from the bottom but he was resisting really hard and i could not finish it. I pull him down and manage to get him to shift his weight to one side and i sweep and finish off the round in mount.

3rd (final) round - same stuff as 1st round, i was on top most of the time, he swept me 2-3 times and i swept back, then with about 30 seconds to go i am in his guard. im trying to posture up and pass. i probably should have layed and prayed at that point, but i was going for it. i posture up and put weight with both arms on his legs. he was kinda slippery so he throws his legs up over my arms and manages to get a triangle on loosely . i get out of it for the most part and regain position. same thing happens again, only this time he sinks it. i can hear the bellman shout "10 seconds" as he is starting to tighten it. i freaked and bridged over and flipped over him, hoping it would help. it didnt really, and he was about to tap me, then...ding ding ding, saved by the bell.

so it went to decision, and the judges gave me the first two rounds then gave the last round to him. I ended up winning 29-28. so it was really close!

some things I learned:

I need to condition more (lots more)
I underestimated him, he was much stronger than I anticipated
pace yourself.
always think about ways he can counter what your doing.
