Fantastic! I had no idea of the history on this. Thanks for posting!

"Leonard gave them artistic perfection when they wanted heated battle, and they booed lustily. Most fight fans would not spend a dime to watch Van Gogh paint Sunflowers, but they would fill Yankee Stadium to see him cut off his ear." Pat Putnam

somewhere i read that greco wrestling (or an early type of it) was practised by the army of Napoleon.
Good article by the way, I would like to read some deatails of the rest. Maybe Tombak can share some links with us here?

hard sparring session is like a cold shower in a warm day. It feels good.

I'm kinda still 'old school' so I still head down to the library for research/reading ( I like the feeling of thumbing through pages  ). I'll recall some of the books I read whilst reading up on the subject.

Books:
Combat Sports in the Ancient World : Competition,Violence& Culture - Michael B. Poliakoff

As for web links:

There were a few more websites that provided infos, I will sum them up in a future posting.
After summarizing my findings, only then I would go online for further studies& in regards to this article, it matched what I had researched.

I will revert asap in regards to the books for they were a great find/source& I think apt to share.

Thanks to Chaz, Captcha's ass been capped!

Very insightful. Pays to be a history buff sometimes, too, lol. Thanks, Tombak!!!
