I just recently started cross training at one of the gyms near here to help improve my game.  The guys who are there are really great people and very experienced, most are generally the same or a higher level than myself (which is exactly what I need).  However, once a week we have to wear a gi.  Last time I was there was my first time grappling in a gi in about 2 and a half years LOL.  I held my own but as soon as they'd get some good grips on my collar it wasn't long before they sunk in a collar choke.  Any tips on making the transition from nogi to gi?  Things to look out for, or things that I may normally do in nogi that are big NO's in a gi?  Thanks guys!

Protect your neck!  Work on grip breaking, establishing effective grips, etc.  The fun thing about the gi is the many different ways you can be choked.  You'll get back into the swing of things, just gotta dust off the old bag of tricks.

11th dan in Parnes Jiu-Jitsu, it's one more than Ransom's. Real PJJ goes to 11!

When standing in a gi you can get away with a lot of judo throws that in no-gi would give up your back (ippon seoi nage is a prime example). It can be much harder to take someone's back, even from a position like turtle, with the gi on due to the grips.
