High Guard to Thai Clinch
A good defensive drill against an outside, right handed punch (hook, haymaker, overhand etc.). We see so many of these wild looping punches in MMA (especially local shows) so our thai coach decided to work on some conter drills for those types of punches. Here is one that we did tonight.
Our Thai coach Steve goes over the finer points
The drill
nice.
Good drill, will wear you out fast
I was thinking high guard like in Jiu-Jitsu. Made a lot more sense after I watched the video.
LOL at 1:48 kid in the background. You gotta get those poles wrapped up.
good stuff!
Thanks for the videos. some good stuff there.
Dave
I really like it. As someone with more of a wrestling background and less Muay Thai, I found I liked slipping into a front headlock after the initial knee. Playing with it both ways though.
Dave
nice! thanks Adam!!
this move i think can serve well the wrestler type mma fighters or against a wild guy whit few striking expérience.
the thing is that those big swing are slow and you have to stay there waiting for it to connect to youre block while other simple option like a snap back would do the job quicker and whit zero domage on you , cause even blocked those big shots can dommage you.
an other thing is that youre hands have to be held very high in gaurd or the move will be very slow to but whit the guard to high punching work less well.
an other option that havent been mention to is to advance whit that block and end up elbowing , not really elbowing but cause the elbow is already pointed straight in front of you just a quick step will drive youre elbow to the face of the other guy.
thanks for sharing the videos
nice... i do these out here in afghan with a buddy.. he hates being a "body"..lol
The title had me boggled lol.
I was expecting a high guard (BJJ) to Thai Clench!
