How to clean Dollamur Flexi Roll Mats?
Hey fellow Lockflowers!
I've gotten really lucky and a buddy of mine is going off to college and needs to get rid of his practically brand new Dollamur Flexi Roll Grappling mats.
So, for probably a fourth of the price I'd normally have to pay for it, I'll be getting some mats for home use just so I can rep some techniques with my buddies. I'm super excited and can't wait to get em.
He said I need to come by and pick em up by this coming friday so I'm trying to figure everything out beforehand.
1) I can roll em out on my patio to do our training but the floor is wood and a bit uneven and most likely dirty. Should I lay out a carpet on top of the wood and then the mats? Or does it not really matter?
I was thinking of just rolling em out on my grass and rolling there...
2) How do I clean these things? Lol. Don't get me wrong, I've paid my dues at my jiu jitsu academy. I've been mopping up after class for quite a while now. But what's in that solution before I spray it on the mats and wipe it is beyond me. Haha. I know mat cleaner sells but I don't know. I've heard it needs to be mixed with water, etc. So who knows the recipe! =)
3) Do I need mat tape? i feel like htat's only necessary if I'm really putting em down. But I need them portable. So should I just not get mat tape?
Thanks again for all the help guys! I promise pics soon! Just help me out! =)
It depends. In general you'll be mixing it with water. How much should be on the bottle. You should be able to spray it on or put it in a mop bucket. Mop or rag is probably the way to go. I'd recommend a rag because you can toss it in the wash (no need for new mop heads).
For canvas covered mats we just swept them and cleaned up blood with hydrogen peroxide. It worked (no one got skin infections). For wrestling/judo mats we've just been using a bleach/water mix and a mop.
As far as mat tape and the carpet, I'd recommend both (I'm assuming you have at least two mats). It's worth taping them together so that you don't get gaps. That's how toes get broken. The carpet should also provide you a more level surface and may help them slide less.
I wouldn't use packaging tape because it will leave a sticky residue. The residue is incredibly hard to get off the mat, leaving a black disgusting strip where the tape is. I still cant get it off my mat even after trying to use goo-gone an other products like that to get it off. Mat tape is best even if it is expensive.
I have those mats, I just use some kind of water and bleach solution and then mop with one of those steam sharks.
If you are going to spring for something spring for the good mat tape.

There is special mat cleaner but it is little expensive. I water down some pine sol and spray it on with a basic spray bottle then use swifer type mops to scrub it.
As far as tape the only issue is the residue that it leaves behind, duct tape is bad, mat tape is the best but then again the cost factor comes in. Was thinking about trying packing tape for my flexiroll mats. Will see how that does.
