I need a new Gi. Any recommendations?
Okay it's time for a new Gi. My mix and match combo (krugan top and bad boy pants) needs to be retired. I also own a Gameness pearl but it has shrunk way too much. The problem I'm having with selecting a Gi is the prices. Is it just me or did the prices of Gi's go way up? I would like something decent but I am not going to pay $180 for something that is usually made in a third world country out of one of the cheapest materials you can get (cotton). I am looking for something that doesn't make me look like a walking billboard either. Any recommendations would be appreciated.

I haven't used these but they look good and the price isn't too bad
I like Fuji.
My personal favorite is Koral but the Warrior One special edition gis are great for the price. Plus Keven the owner or Warrior One is lockFlow regular.

The True Fight gi's are solid. You can't go wrong with them and they are reasonably priced. Several people from our gym wear them, and they have been worn in the Pan and Mundials so they are IBJJF approved.
I'm a little suspicious of Killer Bee because their gis are really cheap, but I've also heard good things about them from a few people.
I've heard those very simple Adidas ones are pretty damn good and they usually run around $80 and sometimes less. I paid $110 for my OTM and it is awesome, really lightweight and durable.
8 replies and 9 different gis. Boy, we're making this easy for you
There's so many good Gi's out there. My personal preference is Keiko Raca.
Some time ago Aesopian did a gi survey, and another reader took his data and did statistical analysis of it. His results were a list of the gi's that people were most satisfied with. The top one or two were very exspensive, but the next two were padilla and sons, and Sirius. I own one of each, along with an atama and a Kagi. Sirius is my favorite both for quality and for comfort. Mine is in the ultralite gold weave.
FWIW.
Ground control gi's kick ass. I just bought my second one. Excellent quality good price and nice look and feel.
Also if you go on ebay and look them up they are dirt cheap right now I just got mine for 55 shipped.
I trained at a gym where we all had to have the same gi. We all had HCK gi's and they were very tough and durable and also very reasonable. HCK has been around forever. You probably remember seeing HCK on some fighters' butts in the early UFC's. I still have my plain HCK unbleached gi and would reccomend it to anyone. It was a great value. It is not fancy or flashy but if you are worried about looking cool then you could just add some patches or something.
I have an HCK too. If you're into using fancy gi work with your own lapels or anything crazy like that, it might not be the best option since it feels like a suit of armor. It's really thick and tough, and the collar/lapels are stiff like cardboard, so it takes forever to dry, but I like it for competition since it's harder for your opponent to manipulate.
Used to have an HCK, gave it away. I couldn't stand that seam in the middle of my back. Reacently bought a padilla gold weave and it has the thick collar, seems well made and no seam in my back.
I need a new competition gi, and went through all the ones listed.
I looked up the Ground Control ones and was so excited to see an A3-Slim size! Exactly what I need.. but they don't ship to Canada.
I think I'll be stuck with an over sized A3 gi again.
hck strong, simple
OTM lightweight GI. 420
ive owned atama mundials and i dont wanna wear anything but my OTM. its one of the lightest Gi's yet strong.
the light weight is good for weighing in at competitions
ripstop pants.
its hard for opponents to get good grips
feels like im wearing a t-shirt
doesnt shrink at all
the kicker
cost me $110.
my next gi will be a lightweight Koral. nothin but lightweights from here on out.
Best Gi I ever wore for the price.
I have not been at all impressed with my OTM 420. The ripstop pants ripped out a seam at a tournament four days after I bought the gi. I have only had the gi for a few months and there are numerous small tears along the collar. I bought the gi through my gym, they contacted OTM (several times) and have been told that the pants would be replaced, but several months later, I still have not seen them. Overall, I am not impressed with the quality of the gi (especially the pants) and even less so with the customer service.
Your mileage may vary.

venum gi's are great bur price
Shoyoroll gis are probably the most in demand gis on the market. If, by some stroke of luck, you manage to be on one of the two websites worldwide that sell them... Get one. Then you just have to wait the 5 months for it to arrive in the mail...
They run true to size.
They don't shrink much due to washing.
Durable and good looking.
Hope this helps.
gi's and gear for cheap.
I ended up getting an Atama Ultra light, and went with an A3 which is always too big for me.
I spent some time and used a dryer to shrink it. The sleeves are perfect, but it's still pretty loose on the body. (I'm 6'2 175).
It'll do, but I'd still like to find something that fits a little more snug that will accommodate my long arms and legs.

check out subcultureusa ...the have some nice strong decent price kimonos...and a couple colors like charcoal gray or navy blue that look really nice
