IBJJF Questions

I thought i'd start a thread about some IBJJF questions I had in hopes some may be able to answer and for everyone to learn.

Since I'm heading to Rio, and competing in the Rio Open I am wondering if my Atama ultra lite gi is legit.

The reason I ask is they the pants are the 'rip-stop' type fabric. and I've read somewhere that the gi must be 'normal' gi fabric.

Anyone know at all?

The rule only applies to Kimonos:
"...constructed of cotton or similar material and in good condition. The material may not be excessivly thick or hard to the point where it will obstruct the opponent."

It is my understanding is that ripstop pants are legal, cotton kimonos in a ripstop weave are okay, but gis made of the more nylon type fabric that ripstop pants are made of are not.

ptbeast is correct. The main kind of fabric they are looking to keep off the mat is the "summer weave" type of material that's more canvas than cotton. Typically, cleanliness and the fit of the gi (not too short or too tight) are bigger concerns.
