keysi fighting method...opinions?
this skill set was used in the dark knight and mission impossible. it seems a little theatric but the basic principal is straightforward and solid IMO. its reactionary like tony blauer's SPEAR system and is driven by emotional reaction combined with offense/defensive techniques. if i am not mistaken i have seen tito ortiz and forrest griffin use the elbows up blocking techniques in the cage. just wanted to get some thoughts on it.
dude 1st video was nes castlvania 2 rock remix...i swear!
jab, elbow, hammer, get caught in a triangle choke.
But seriously, ain't nothing wrong with "keep yer fookin hands up, throw a lot of elbows" as the foundation of a striking system.
For it's purpose (self-defense) it probably serves as well as any other. It sprouted from a JKD branch and uses stuff like hammer fists and elbows so it can be applied by people with hands unaccustomed to striking. Althouhgh there is a strange prevalance of head butts...
I've watched some of their instructional stuff. I like most of it, but some of the chains... I wouldn't use if I were being mugged, let's say.
i've got to disagree here. i watched a few clips when keysi was riding the batman-hype and i remember more than one occasion where the practitioner actively gave his back to his opponent to deliver an elbow strike.
any self-defense system that advocates turning away from any assailant for whatever reason is not worth anyone's time.
study good krav maga or fma instead.
I can just picture someone with there hands on their forehead eating a nasty uppercut to the chin...
I've been learning KFM and the hands on the head with an exposed chin or groin is a snapshot in time. It's like a photo. Keysi practitioners keep moving and are very hard to hit cleanly. They only show the opponent their backs to partially control them following strikes to deal with the next on-coming opponent if they can't get to use the first opponent as a shield.

many martial arts use destructions or "defang the snake".
but batman took out a whole swat team in TDK, and a ninja team in begins...
to be truthful i thought this was kind of a movie fighting system, but now i dont know. it looks awesome.
