Kimura defense/escaping

One major problem i notice in my game is that I always get caught in kimuras from guard and sometimes when I'm mounted. I just really have no idea how to defend when they're setting up the grip and have no idea how to escape from one once it's locked in(other than clasp my hands together and try to wait it out) Thanks for any help.

if its applied while your in someones guard and he dont trap the leg on the side of your body hes puttin the kimura on then u can tuck your head and roll out of it on your shoulder.
also you can grab your pants and hold on and he might give up the submission attempt.
keep fighting to get your hand in front of you, once it comes in front of you your pretty much safe.hope this helps, kimuras from guard are one of my favorites

grabbing the inside of the leg is pretty much what i do. fundamental to flow with most other counters (0ther than the second one) and imo the quickest to go to. plus, in most positions in possible to go to (half guard, full guard, mount, etc. drawback is that if you don't have a plan to recounter, set up something else, etc. its a stalemate and you have to wait for your opponent to give it up for something else as the first tech said.

when i get a chance, ill post what i do from there sometimes.

good luck

if the kimura is being put on from the cross body, turn towards the arm being kimuraed and take the knee from the same side and use it to push their arm off of your wrist, this sets you up also for the inverted triangle.

from the guard. when u notice they shift they body and they reach across for one of ur arm, wrap ur arms around their body and lock it in. then tripod and dig ur head and put ur body weight into their sternum. they should feel a lot of discomfort and adbandon their attempt.

and this is why I miss having MODS here... But back to the orignial topic. best bet is to get your grips solid before and if you see him rolling up use your forehead in the center of his chest to flatten him out. The actual grip is tricky to break and once it gets set in its a sticky situation because if you roll out (which is still a good defence) you give him 2 points (it counts as a sweeo) in a grappling situation, and in a MMA context you are going to concede the top position and face some G and P.If you are allready caught grab your inner thigh and start trying to work your arm back infront of you.
