Matt Hamill vs. Tito Ortiz added to UFC 121 in October
At UFC 121, teacher will meet student.
A light heavyweight matchup featuring former UFC light heavyweight champion Tito Ortiz (15-7-1 MMA, 14-7-1 UFC) and the man he coached on "The Ultimate Fighter 3," Matt Hamill (9-2 MMA, 9-2 UFC), has been added to the pay-per-view event.
MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) confirmed with sources close to the event that bout agreements were recently distributed for the contest. MMAFighting.com first reported the matchup.
Featuring a heavyweight title clash between champion Brock Lesnar and challenger Cain Velasquez, UFC 121 is scheduled for Oct. 23 at the Honda Center in Anaheim, Calif.
Ortiz coached opposite Ken Shamrock in the third season of "The Ultimate Fighter," and Hamill was one of four light heavyweights on "The Huntington Beach Bad Boy's" team. Hamill defeated Mike Nickels in the opening round of the tourney but was then forced out of the competition due to injury.
Hamill enters the fight on an official four-fight win streak, though his December 2009 disqualification victory over Jon Jones is widely considered a defeat.
A former collegiate wrestling champion, Hamill has shown an impressive striking game in recent outings with a stunning head-kick knockout of Mark Munoz at UFC 96 and a "Fight of the Night" slugfest victory over Keith Jardine at June's The Ultimate Fighter 11 Finale.
Meanwhile, Ortiz enters the contest in desperate need of a win.
Despite a valiant effort against Forrest Griffin at UFC 106 this past November, Ortiz is 0-3-1 in his past four bouts. Of course, all four bouts have been against former UFC champions.
Ortiz hasn't tasted victory since October 2006 in a 69-second win over rival Shamrock at The Ultimate Fighter 3 Finale.
The positioning of the Hamill-Ortiz matchup on the UFC 121 card has yet to be announced, though the contest appears a likely a main-card affair.

That's cold, Joe Silva... Cold.

I figured the staph reference would be made pretty quickly. Staph aside, I like Hamill in this one. Tito is done.

"Who'd you rather...?"
I am NOT interested in this at all. I am always up for tito getting his ass whooped but I don't think hammill will destroy him the way I want him destroyed!

I think this is Hamill's fight to lose. He's got Tito in basically every aspect of the game. His striking is cleaner, he's faster, he'll be able to stop Tito's infamous double leg. I say he wont be able to stop him, but he definitely takes this fight.
I have to go the other way on this one. I see Matt getting better, but Tito is a more experienced version of Matt. The only stiff competition Matt faced was his loss to Jones, while tito had a gambit of a bit tougher fighters he has recently faced.
Matt has a mark coleman type quality, where you count him out before the fight has begun and he somehow manages to keep on going. I see this one going three rounds and tito taking a 29-28 split

I gotta go with Hamill in this one. I can see him stuffing Oritz's takedowns and eventually putting him to sleep or getting the ref stoppage. Once you stop that takedown his mental game is in shambles ala Machida and Liddell. Ive also noticed that Ortiz's killer instinct doesnt seem to be as noticable. He was completely disheartened against Griffin and elected to ride out the last round acting as a human punching bag.
Hamill on the other hand has tons of aggression which is backed up by power, great cardio, and a huge heart.

FREESTYLE AMERICAN SHOOT TEAM Thanks to eagles for the sig!
This must be kind of a weird fight for Hamill, considering how Tito treated him on TUF. I don't know how I would feel fighting my former coach.
I'm not a black belt, but I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night.
LOL @ bruceleroy's comments.. and I AGREE! I want to see him smashed and I just don't know if Hammil can get it done to the degree that I want to see happen.
I also agree that this is Hammil's to lose.
Was there ever any update on the outcome of Tito's company ride to a back/neck specialist?
Remember when Dana let him go off the show after he pulled out of the fight with Chuck.. he was supposed to leave the next day for a visit to a specialist to get his injury checked out on the UFC's dime?.. anyone know what happened with that?
This is what we need, just hear me out...
Tito needs to win in a brutal fashion. 1st round ko after 4:30 of fist to face style.
Jon Jones to win against Vladdy, but in a mehhhh 3 round split decision.
Have Jones VS Tito.... Jones by murder, round one...

My first reaction is to give it to Hamill, but I don't think he'll be as mentally ready to fight his former coach as Tito will be to make his best attempt at putting a hurt on Matt.
Tito by outpointing him with experience.

I think Matt needs to talk to Jenna about TItos fighting style for some tips on what to look for. just kidding.
+1 to bruceleroy, want to see him loose but worse that what hamil can provide for him.
5000 posts = unicorn status There is only room for one Toby Mcquire, and that is me: Jake Jilenhol.
Now, Tito vs Lesnar I'd watch.
Funny how I don't like Lesnar but I want him to fight all the other guys I don't like. Thus proving that while I don't like the person I do acknowledge his ability to smash people!

Hell bruce, I'd LOVE to see Lesnar and Tito! LOL!
Ya know.. this whole like teacher vs. student thing.. I don't think Tito is loyal to anyone 'cept his check book.. I don't think he'll lose ANY sleep at all in having to face or smash Hammill.

I wonder if Hamill has had Quaid from 'Total Recall' removed from his back yet?
