Mayweather vs Ortiz result...vid
( just cant stand when things like that happen, but then again the Mayweathers' have a reputation.
Hmmm... I don't know. I saw an intentional head butt first. The first rule of boxing is protect yourself at all times and if you intentionally foul someone you should expect to be fouled in return. If someone punches you below the belt the proper response is to punch them back below the belt. That is the mentality of all the great boxers from the past.
Don't misunderstand me. I believe in being a good sportsman and I never intentionally fouled anyone in competition. I know someone will say 'two wrongs don't make a right' but Victor should have known better than to headbutt Floyd and after he did he should have known never to let his guard down or take his eyes of Floyd.
I didn't see the fight and I haven't seen the clip. But in my mind they say it before every single fight. protect yourselves at ALL times.
I'm with Rampage when he says "don't touch gloves, do that before and after the fight". You would never see a football player pat another guy on the butt in the middle of a play. After the play? Sure.
not sure i would call mayweather vs ortiz controversial(watched this morning). ortiz threw out 3 head butts intentionally, the last being the most obvious. he failed in the 4 ways:
1)he was in the ring with FLOYD MAYWEATHTER JR., enough said.
2)he threw 3 cheap shot headbutts
3)he kissed mayweather on the cheek after wards
4)he dropped his guard after the ref moved away
game over
the best part of the whole thing was the merchant interview afterwards
"if i was 50 years younger i would kick your ass"
golden
no need to touch gloves during fight...
Protect yourself at all time.
Bruce Leroy is right again.
I just watched the end of that fight and I've gotta disagree. You don't have to protect yourself at all times. The ref had called a timeout, meaning the fighting stops until directed to begin. You don't have to keep your hands by your chin duringa a timeout, when sitting at your corner, etc.
Floyd saw his opponent with his hands down, looking away from him and sucker-punched him...twice. Cowardly, ch!ckensh!t move. Granted, it followed an obvious foul and Ortiz wasn't really competitive up until that point anyway, but that doesn't excuse his actions.
chicken shit move on mayweathers part. i know your supposed to keep your hands up at all times. but, mayweather has no respect for his fighter, or for boxing. sad. he knew what the situation was,and he still did what he did. damn shame.
Protect yourself at all times should be the first rule of fight club. Not saying its right but this will be a lesson that will stay with Ortiz for his whole career.
Edit
I feel like a million bucks with no captcha, my work day was not going well but that has changed
OK, I've probably seen 10,000 pro fights in my life, never once have I heard anyone say "keep your hands up at all times!" " I mean unless I call a time out, or if the guy isn't looking, or if the sun is in your eye and there's a car coming."
Think of it this way. You work your whole life to become a champion. You are in a championship fight. Why on earth do you take any chances and put your hands down? This is your lifes work.
I still have not seen the clip but if time out was called wouldn't the ref had DQ'd him?
The referee calls a timeout, you STOP fighting. That's how it works. No, it's not part of the in-ring instructions. That's why they have pre-fight instructions in the dressing room. You've probably heard them refer to those 10,000 times as well. They don't go over every rule in the ring. In the ring they typically say, "Obey my instructions."
You should really take a look at the fight. Ortiz headbutts Mayweather. The referee calls a break, takes Ortiz by the hand and walks him around the ring, telling each judge to deduct a point. He then walks him to the center of the ring and lets go of his hand. Referee Cortez then looks towards someone (presumedly the timekeeper) and is trying to communicate something to him/her while Ortiz hugs and continues apologizing to Mayweather. Everything is real friendly at this point until Ortiz turns his head and looks at someone outside the ring. Mayweather then punches Ortiz, twice. Cortez is still looking away. He never even saw the punches being thrown.
Now, when a timeout is ended, the referee stands between both fighters, separates them by a few feet, signals and says "Box" in a loud voice. This tells both fighters it's time to fight again. This didn't happen here.
I agree with you, Floyd should have been DQ'd. Cortez screwed up, didn't have full control of the fight for a few seconds, and the bout ended. He screwed up and had to react quickly. Didn't have time to think about what had just happed and made a mistake. Simple as that
Would you also agree that if Ortiz had "protected himself at all times" this wouldn't have happened?
They always say "if YOU don't want the judges deciding then YOU should finish the fight." Well, if YOU don't ever want to get sucker punched or maybe sucker punched or possibly sucker punched the YOU should not put yourself in that position.
(by you I mean Ortiz)
I would absolutely agree with you there. If Ortiz had protected himself this would not have happened. However, that's like blaiming the victim for being on the receiving end of a crime. EG, If YOU had not gone into that hotel room with Mike Tyson at 2am, then YOU would not have been raped. Why would YOU go into that room otherwise? It's unreasonable for YOU not to expect to get YOURSELF raped under those circumstances.
I see the point you're trying to make, however it's still a weak argument. I will say this, the more I watch the fight the less of a problem I have with Floyd Mayweather. This was all Joe Cortez. He just doesn't look sharp or even interested the whole fight. He actually screwed up his little, "I'm firm, but I'm fair" catchphrase. Plus, he actually left out the standard, "Protect yourself at all times" instruction. (I'm not saying it wouldn't still be in effect, but that's a MAJOR ommission. Like a cop forgetting to mirandize you.
He never saw the puches that put Ortiz down, nor did he start the count. Guy on the outside began couting, Cortez stared at him and picked up the count. You gotta wonder, if the fight had been re-started why wasn't Cortez watching said fight?
I'm gonna see if I can make a smaller clip of the last seconds or so of the fight. Something small enough to email. You really need to see the end to realize how deeply fouled up the ending was
The ref called a time out. shortly after and before the KO he made a weak signal to get back to fighting. He brought his hands together as he always does to signal continuing the action. It was definitely some weak officiating.
Both guys threw cheap shots Mayweather was on his way to destroying Ortiz as it was. Really it was the best thing that could have happened to Ortiz. If the fight had gone on he would have been smoked, but instead he gets this "controversial" ending that allows everyone to stay behind him with all of the what ifs. He may even get a rematch in the future and make another 2+ mil.
Dont care AT ALL! Let me know when Mayweather decides to fight Pac-Man!
Cortez had them touch gloves then turned his head away. Don't let the fighters touch gloves and THEN postpone the fighting! Once you touch gloves it's on! This happened 1 second after they touched gloves (which to me is the dirty part from PBF, the fact that he swung immediately after touching), both fighters fought dirty, Ortiz was already losing and tried headbutting on a few occasions. No one here to blame but the REF!! If he would have sent them to the corners like he was supposed to we would have seen a 12 round fight of PBF tagging Ortiz over and over.
I can sum this up for everyone really easy don't take it there unless you are willing to keep it there
