My left shoulder is numb

Hey, on wednesday night I was rolling with someone and got caught in a deep darce choke. And it was really tight on my left side (with my arm) but the right side wasn't quite sunk in so i was able to barely survive for about a minute until he finally let go. Well, when he let go my left arm was completely dead like ive been lifting all day, which happens every so often when rolling, and my arm felt like it was asleep. I didn't think much off it but now it's been like 2 days and left side of my neck along with the back and side of my shoulder, and thumb feels numb. It's kind of like that feeling when your arm falls asleep, but not as bad. It isn't really noticeable until i take a shower or something is touching it, but it just seems strange. Just wondering if anyone would know what was going on or if I should see a doctor or just wait it out. It doesn't seem that serious, it's not really effecting me as of now, my neck and shoulder just are a little sore (like after a hard work out the day before) along with it. Thanks for any help.

Probably a pinched nerve from having your neck compressed at a weird angle. Since it wasn't a sudden violent jolt that did it, it will probably get better. Give it a few days and don't stretch very much. Just take it easy, but if it doesn't go away after a few more days, its MRI time.

i'd listen to what killbot had to say and at least rest it a for a few days.

I had a pretty significant injury to my brachial plexus region several years back. I was attempting an armbar escape and really stretched the nerves in my shoulder area. It felt like a jolt of electricity shooting from my neck/shoulder down through my arm. Well, stupid me decides to keep training for another week or two and i kept re-aggravating it. Next thing you know i look like Tra Telligman because my right pectoral all but atrophied away! I could not even bench press 10 pounds on the right side. It took lots of physical therapy along with sitting out of the gym to get it better.

still to this day i will have that electric jolt hit me from time to time and then i sit out for a week or so to let myself heal.

this message was longer than intended but i don't wanna see anyone get hurt Tongue Tongue Tongue

if in doubt then rest up a bit before doing anymore rolling.

Just the facts maam.

Thanks for the input. I'll probably let it rest for a week and see how its doing. If I still feel this numbness by then, is it a sign to see a doctor or should i wait longer?

well, it may be time to see an orthopedic physician... they might wanna do some nerve tests to see if there is any nerve damage (just speaking from personal experience and not medical knowledge).

But, like I said, I had waited until my muscle had atrophied away. The doctor said it would have been alright if I would have just rested and would not have kept training... which resulted in my injury.

Rest it up for a while, and then when you think it's better rest it just a little more Wink

Just the facts maam.
