Anyone know of some good shoes to get for training? I've decided that I have finally had enough of cutting up the bottom of my toes.

vibrams? or maybe some of those grappling socks which may be a good cheaper alternative.

maybe just tape your toes.

if you cant beat them, arrange to have them beaten.

yeah. I'm just not really into the socks/vibrams. I'd rather just get some shoes.

I got these for wrestling at school.

http://www.mywrestlingroom.com/index.cfm/a/catalog.prodshow/vid/13984/ca...

the website has pretty good prices based on what my coach says. I heard adidas and nike brand wrestling shoes suck your only paying for the brand name and not quality and durability.
I've heard that asics are the OG of wrestling shoes.

yeah, most the guys I've rolled with who wear shoes, wear asics. I was thinking about getting them, but not sure which ones. I'm not looking to spend too much money, but at the same time, I dont wana buy junk.

I hate it when people roll with shoes, mostly because I don't like shoe laces and rubber soles digging into my face. I have wrestling shoes, but the only time I ever wear them is when I am doing a wrestling/takedowns class or boxing. Also, I don't wear them when rolling because you can't wear them in MMA and you can't always wear them in a submission wrestling tournament. I tape up my big toes every day both because of mat burn on the top (although with good mats you don't have that problem) and because I get blisters all the time.

eh, I dont mind shoes. but that was a good point about not wearing them in mma. I guess I could just tape them, but doesnt the tape fall off after a while from all the sweat and constant moving?

Not if you use athletic tape and tape it good. I usually do one strip lengthwise, over the toe, than a couple times around the toe widthwise. Occasionally it will fall off, but its usually only when rolling or something and I keep a couple rolls in my bag so I just tape it back up (takes like 30 seconds).

i've been wearing the same pair of adidas wrestling shoes since 2000; they've served me well.

these are the best shoes you will ever wear Wink what makes them so good is that you can pivot for throws and not blow out your knee because rubber wrestling shoes are for driving forward. These shoes you can drive and slide your foot lightly across the floor for all you throws Cool

they look nice! I'm rethinking getting them though, since I am planning on having my first fight within a year, I guess it would be smart to just keep going in bare feet.

If you're thinking about going barefoot, you could do some stuff to toughen your feet. I jump rope on porous concrete. It really tears your feet up and first, but after awhile the bottom of your feet will feel as hard as the concrete you're jumping rope on =)

I've actually always trained barefoot, lol. But for some reason lately the bottom of my big toe (yes only my big toe haha) splits right in the middle. Its just really annoying.

Looks like an old thread that was bumped by a spammer, BUT Asics are the best wrestling shoes you can get. They are the original, the Chuck Taylor's of wrestling shoes. Also, check out www.eastbay.com for some good prices too. Just found this site recently. Wish we had the internets when I grew up wrestling!
