opponent passing our guard by "throwing" our legs on one side TIPS needed
hey guys i was just wondering if you could help me to figure ways to avoid the difficult position when i am on bottom and my submission attempt fail (by thowing my hips high for armbar or triangle) and that very moment the opponent capitalizes on that by throwing my legs on one side and passing my guard....
so far i ve seen Mir shows a technique by pushing the eblow (Marcelo also show that)
and another technique when i go turtle and going for the takedown ...
A move we do quite often at our gym is like Mir push the arm (at the elbow and bring in the close knee to the back of the tricep of the same arm.
So, in the example in Mir's vid.
Your right hand would grab their right.
Your left arm would push their right elbow.
Your left knee would come behind their right tricept and immediately push their arm/shoulder to the floor (as you sit up slightly and move your left arm up to stop him from going over top you).
That's the simplest way I can explain it without showing it.
The key part is using the shin to push their shoulder down.
There was a vid by Kurt Osiander not to long ago that addressed the elbow push technique as well as a way to work your leg around the arm they are trying to scoop with. I will see if I can track it down.

As with anything, it depends on your opponent. Pushing the arm is good, and then you can follow up by standing as Mir shows, or Kata Guruma as Marcelo shows. I think it's Gokor that shows a recovery where they start the pass and your turn into them hard to attack the other arm with an armbar.
I'm going to assume the left leg is up attacking for the triangle. When they hug your left leg to pass, you grab their free hand (should be their left) and pull the arm between your legs. Spin into them and swing your right leg over their head. You should end up in the belly-down juji gatame (or flip them over from here to the normal juji gatame). I've hit this a few times with a gi, no idea how well it would work no-gi.
