"Rampage" Jackson verbally agrees to face Lyoto Machida at Nov. 20 UFC event

http://mmajunkie.com/news/19996/rampage-jackson-verbally-agrees-to-face-...

A long-anticipated battle between two former UFC champions is likely to take place this fall.

Quinton "Rampage" Jackson (30-8 MMA, 5-2 UFC) has verbally agreed to face Lyoto Machida (16-1 MMA, 8-1 UFC).

Jackson teased the contest on his official Twitter account, and MMAjunkie.com has learned that the bout is targeted for the main event of a yet-to-be-announced Nov. 20 date.

"Almost ready to sign the bout agreement," Jackson stated on his Twitter account. "I would tell ya'll who I'm gonna get down with, but I can't spell his name. Hahaha."

As Jackson alluded to in the post, bout agreements have yet to be finalized.

A location for the Nov. 20 card (which could potentially serve as UFC 123) has yet to be determined, and UFC officials are said to be considering a handful of potential venues.

Jackson looks to bounce back from a May loss to nemesis Rashad Evans at UFC 114. The contest was the culmination of 14 months worth of rivalry and a coaching gig on "The Ultimate Fighter" opposite Evans.

Prior to the loss, Jackson had earned back-to-back victories over Keith Jardine and Wanderlei Silva.

Meanwhile, Machida also looks to bounce back from a loss – the first defeat of his career. "The Dragon" was knocked out in the first round of his May rematch with Mauricio "Shogun" Rua and relinquished his belt in the process.

Prior to the defeat, Machida had earned eight-straight UFC wins and both claimed and once defended the UFC's light heavyweight title.

Jackson was said to be interested in a rematch with Forrest Griffin – the man who took the title from "Rampage" in July 2008 – but the original winner of "The Ultimate Fighter" is currently sidelined following shoulder surgery.

The winner of the Jackson-Machida contest will undoubtedly return to top-contender status in a stacked 205-pound division.

Couldn't have asked for a better matchup. I was afraid that they weren't gonna put this fight together, but I'm glad they did.

Wonder how Machida's pshyche is right now? He didnt look the same coming into the Shogun rematch.

Rampage looked like a truck on 4 flat tires...its gonna be interesting to see how each guy recovers from their last loss coming into this fight.

I want rampage to win, but machida will probably win. I think knockout in the late second round, Machida.

Fighting is good for the soul.

One of the only guys Machida has faced who has consistent one punch KO power. Lyoto will probably win, but it's still a cool fight.

Machida has the speed advantage on Rampage, but if Rampage can put his fists on Machida's jaw, i don't think Machida will be able to take it. If Shogun can drop Machida, then im pretty sure Rampage can do it too if he puts his fist to Machida's jaw.

Yeah, but Shogun is a far superior striker when compared to Rampage. Quinton has pretty good boxing and excellent power, but Shogun can use any limb to destroy folk.

Machida for sure. Rampages work ethic has always been questionable and I think it has only gotten worse. I think Rampage is more interested in getting into movies than fighting which frankly who could blame him. I have to wonder about Randy doing the same thing. He is doing that new movie with Stallone and like thirty other action stars (Which I know is lame but I still want to see it) and I have to wonder how serious he is about this fight with James Toney.
Anyway back to the subject. Machida just lost for the first time so I‘m sure he is looking to get back up into title contention as fast as possible. When Shogun and Machida first fought, which I thought Machida lost, Machida hung in there with Shogun all five rounds. Shogun won the second fight by blitzing hard towards Machida with good combinations something that Rampage doesn’t do. Rampage will basically stand there and try to land one good strike at a time which usually doesn’t work well with someone that moves as much as Machida. Also if we want to use fighters that they have both fought as a measuring stick then two good examples would be Rashid and Shogun. Machida has also done a far better job at competing with Shogun seeing as Shogun stomped the crap out of Rampage when they met in pride and Machida managed to hang with him for a total of 5 and half rounds. Rashid fights a lot like Rampage, only faster and less powerful, and Rampage lost all but the last bit of that fight, while Machida made Evans look like he didn’t even belong in the same cage with him.
I would have to think that the Vegas odds are heavily in Machidas favor.
