Rate this guy hitting the Pads...
I don’t think that I have ever seen Anderson hit anything hard expect for when he gets into a cage to hit a person. Every time I see a training video of him, whether he sparring or hitting pads or a bag, he never looks like he is hitting hard.
He looks like he is about to fall asleep. Seems like something is off here.

I saw an interview with Freddy Roach, where is said Anderson came in one day to train, and Freddie was like "who is this joker?" When he say Anderson fight, he realized that he trains at about 30%. Apparently this works for some people...
Looks to me he is working on timing not speed and power! If it isnt broken dont fix it!! Go Silva!!

I don't think Anderson ever "looks" like he hits hard, but he's got power. I will never forget his 1st punch in the UFC. When he fought Leben, watch the fight if you haven't seen it in a while. That 1st jab that lands snaps Leben's head back like you don't see every day. I was routing for Leben and when I saw that jab I looked at my wife and said "if his jab does that the cross is going to put him away!"
The Irving KO, the Forrest KO. Those didn't "look" like big crushing shots, but they did the job none the less.

This could also be at the end of his workout. Just a little cool down/technique drill. Either way, he still hits a lot harder than me (at least I am guessing he does).
Now I am not sure about the choice of music for this video (song is fine, but not what I would associate with fighting).

You know there is just so many different approaches to training on the pads. A lot of time we focus on power, I've always been a pretty firm believer in working a lot of power. But at the same time we cant afford to get sloppy and thats when we need to tone it down and focus on footwork and the proper body mechanics of the technique. Slowing it down and working technique and tactics is something everyone needs to do no matter what skill level they are at. The past month I've started working weekly with Master Saohin in Tacoma and as I'm learning his Muay Thai I find myself really enjoying slowing it down a bit similar to this video and working the new technique, combos, tactics, counters etc. But at some point its good to speed it up minus power to train speed and then put it all together with speed and power. But as someone said on here if it is not broken dont fix it. Silva is a great striker so what every he is doing is working for him 
When I was in the army and stationed in Korea they made us take TKD. The instructor who was living, and stationed on our little remote camp was some former world champion, but his knees had gone completely out. So there is this little Korean guy, using two walking canes and can hardly stand.
Every day we would spar, and hit pads and he would get livid if you started throwing shots with any power behind them. He always said " Never waste power on a pad, when you need to hit someone then you can hit them hard" So for damn near that entire year all we did was 20-30% on pads and protective gear. My first fight back in the states in the ammy circuit I still remembered what he said.
All my practice and sparring till then people would laugh and think, well all he is gonna do is get them to the ground and make them hurt, his stand up is soft at best.
I had spent so much time practicing threading a needle, that when it came time to use a hammer every shot landed, and landed clean. I would not trade that year of learning how to control my power for anything.
Anderson has that laser beam accuracy, coupled with enough power behind each shot to max maximum damage, with minimal effort..... Just a thing of beauty.
Chale might have been able to eat some damage taking his double and single takedowns before, but as Bruce said about the Leben fight, one small shot snapped his head back. I want to see Chael shoot that takedown, and eat a knee gyro, and still see if he wants to continue. We all want Anderson to finish his food, and not to play with it. But after all the shit talking from Chael..... We might let Anderson stay at the table for a little while longer.

Anybody else notice that he drops his right before he throws a high kick with his left. It never comes back across to guard his chin, and he isn't guarding with his shoulder either. Seems like a counter right cross might be able to fit through the gap. I only mention it because it's the first hole I have ever noticed in his stand up. Eh, maybe he gets away with it because no one stays in the pocket with him.

I like how is being fluid, working on technique, going 40%. Reminds me of me when I hit pads
