Rule # 1 of Wrestling or Judo...
Don’t try to brace yourself!!!
I was working with a guy last night and I threw a JAPWHIZZER. The guy tried to brace himself with the arm i was throwing. I felt him tighten up, and in my head I thought "this is not going to end well". As soon as I got up i asked are you ok...i was replied with a "yelp".
He arm looked like a snake that got hit by a car. Broken and dislocated.
Rule Number of trying to defend the takedown....don’t try to brace yourself with your arm. Always roll with it.
He's having surgery this morning...I hope he is ok. I’ve seen allot of injuries, this was one of the worst on the mat I’ve every seen.
I feel horrible; maybe I will buy him a bottle of black label to go with those new percosets.
Class for the next week : Monday Breakfalls, Tuesday Breakfalls....ext.
Cool vid. Thanks.
I have seen some many blown shoulders and elbows because people that know how to fall dont want to swallow their pride and take a throw or takedown. Its what we like to call a "self correcting error"!
I read this, and the first thing i thought of was the Shogun Coleman fight when Coleman takes down Shogun and Shogun breaks his arm.
I popped a guy’s knee out one trying to do Ouchi Gari He posted the leg I was reaping and it went backward. I felt bad Coach said it want on me he should have taken the fall.
oops dubble post

Yeah, I preach this to my students all the time. When I get the "thats not gonna happen to me look" I like to show them the Coleman/Shogun fight. That wasn't even a big throw or slam, that his arm just snapped. They usually listen to me after seeing that one....
