Slow-motion...

Lately I have noticed that when I am transitioning from position to submission sometimes it seems like I am in slow motion....

This doesn't happen all the time, but when it does I usually get the sub.

Like last night I was going armbar from mount and it seemed to take forever.. I got the sub though..

Is this common, is it good?

Do you think I am actually going slow, or it just seems slower?

Thanks,

Scott

I have no idea what you're talking about but if you get the sub it can't be bad...

If you can do things slow and still get them it means you have good technique. Plus, your partner probably appreciates it. I've seen some bad things happen when people compensate for their lack of technique with speed and strength..

It is what it is, with or without your reaction.

Man, no kidding.
Last night in training I forced myself to slow things up, try to be more fluid etc. I realized that I was still compensating for lack of skill, by trying to explode through the doors I saw, rather than use finesse.
Each night training though, more of it clicks into place.

It's common if your the six million dollar man!! hahha j/k

My teacher kept telling me to relax cause i was always trying to power stuff out and never sinking anything. So i relaxed, slowed down and I find I hit way more subs that way. Not to mention I use half as much energy when I'm rolling now.

it may not really be that your are going slow. Its that you see the submission already taking place and the actuall execution of the move is better when you let flow natuarally. I know when I was rolling last weekend at NAGA certain things seemed like it was in slow motion but it was just me seeing things clearer and taking advantage of it.

In tactical shooting there is a very old saying, "Slow is smooth..smooth is fast."
I think you can apply that to just about everything.

Relaxed is always better then spastic...IMO

I remeber that movie! Entertaining....but Marky Mark was a bad choice to play Bob Lee Swagger.

I agree with some of the above comments. If you can go slow and still get the sub than it probably means you are properly executing the technique and controlling your opponent well. Either that or the person you are rolling with just sucks

A common thing is that it's not what you did it's what he gave you meaning that finishes are found in what your partner gives you to finish with. This is especially true in Judo randorri (free play). By going slow you can feel what your opponent is giving you rather than trying to force a move. To be good at feeling what your partner is doing you really have to drill each move consistently until you no longer have to think about doing the move and to know the variations and how opponents react so that you don't think of the move as you are doing it- your body is doing the move, your mind is waiting to see how your opponent reacts/counters. A perfect example of this is when applying an armbar you should just be comfortable in the fact that you can do it technically correct without thinking- as your body is doing the armbar your mind should be waiting for the counter and instead of thinking about the armbar you should be feeling for the opportunity to transition into the omo-plata, you cannot do this moving at 100 miles per hour. I believe that this is where the rubber guard is so strong- you severly limit your opponents options and therefore can think two steps ahead of your opponent because you know what their options/reactions will be- Eddie has really made it a science and while the system is still complicated he really has limited their options.
Back on track now- fast poo is still poo

Being attacked is like being asked a question- if you answer right you won't get asked anymore questions.

Whats happening is your filling up your AGGRO meter and going into Overkill mode. The slow motion is a normal, healthy and helpful side effect of Overkill.

Thats good! You're evolving as a fighter or maybe developing your own style. The key is to explore everything in rolling so asking yourself this question is a positive!

Have to agree with you there...if you've read the books, you'll know what a poor choice Wahlberg was to play Bob The Nailer.

Yes. You're actually moving in slow motion like a movie. It's strange to watch.

i'm not sure what u mean by "seemed to take forever," like if it's meant in a good way or bad way. i'll assume good.

yeah, sometimes for for me it does seems like time is slowed down because it was easy getting the move. but sometimes i would transition so fast to a submission, i wouldn't even see it happening. itz like i went from here to armbar. itz weird, but fun :D
