striking instructionals
I need some advice on striking instructionals. I recently bought muay thai unleashed and got alot out of it. Does anyone know any other good books or dvds on boxing, muay thai or striking for mma?
the razor rob dvd is a good one,but anderson silva has one coming out soon ,cant wait for that one.it is a 4 dvd set with boxing, muay thai, the clinch, and takedowns and takedown defense for mma.should be a good one.
The Title Boxing sets are top notch.
I also recommend Salem Assli's old savate series from panther productions.
Haven't seen it yet, but I hear nothing but good things about Greg Nelson's striking for MMA dvd.
"The whole art... consists in just two things, to hit and not to be hit." - M. Jourdain in Le Bourgeois Gentilhomme
John Brown, Freddie Roach, and the Title boxing dvd's are all good, but mainly for traditional boxing. If you are looking for striking for MMA, you may be better off with Greg Nelson's Essentials of Striking for MMA dvd - I have it and like it a lot. It is a filmed seminar, but well done.
Joe Lauzon's Boxing for MMA dvd set is also very good, lots of MMA specific stuff in there.
Erik Paulson also has some great dvd's, especially his CSW Striking dvd, Vale Tudo Focus Mitt drills dvd, and especially my all time favorite, Takedowns off of Punches dvd.
I have Razor Rob's Muay Thai set, Rob Kaman's set, Bob Carver's set, and just got Mike Parker's Muay Thai for MMA set. Those are all pretty good. I think Duke Roufus has the best overall Muay Thai set, though Carver's is great for a beginner and has more detailed instruction.
I plan on getting Duke Roufus and Eric Schaefer's new set from Ttile MMA soon.
A couple other dvds I like and can recommend in this area: Jens Pulver's Dirty Boxing dvd, Malaipet's Muay Thai Clinch dvd, Pat Miletich's Muay Thai pad Combo dvd, and Frank Shamrock's MMA Training Seminar dvd from Mat Wars, especially the parts where he talks about the front leg pendulum kick and the superman punch.
I have a lot of other training dvds as well, if you have any questions on anything feel free to ask. Some stuff I would stay away from (don't mean to bash, but the quality is just not there): Most of the old Panther DVDs, especially Marco Ruas and Vitor Belforts dvds. The Randy Couture X-training stuff (kind of random, nothing in depth). Ultimate Stand Up dvd set from Island Ent. - just get Razor Robs stuff, the rest blows. Plus several others I regret getting, although there are a lot of "OK, never do that" kind of stuff on them...
The biggest room in the world is the room for improvement...
Muay Thai unleashed a pretty good book. I not done with it yet though.
There's a book called Complete Kickboxing. It's very good but I'm not sure how applicable it is for MMA.
I know that not every one has an instructor, but if you do, don't take a book's advice over his.
Pain is the feeling of weakness leaving one's body.
Just picked up Anderson Silva's book yesterday and so far I like it a lot.
anderson silva has one coming out soon ,cant wait for that one.it is a 4 dvd set with boxing, muay thai, the clinch, and takedowns and takedown defense for mma.should be a good one.
Any idea when this is due for release?
andersons book is good, but with victory belt and anderson silva how can it be bad
