Submission wins in UFC PPVs
When/why did the UFC decide that submission victories would be represented on the PPV presentations as: Winner-Submission-Tapout? I remember them actually saying what the sub was.
I *hope* it isn't to advertise the brand.

What he said.
They've always said tapout, it's usually just a little different. EX: "Winner by tapout due to a triangle choke."
There are some defeats more triumphant than victories.
"Winner by tapout" is much easier to say than- "Winner by tapout due to go-go-plata submission" or "Peruvian neck tie" etc.
Keeps it simple for the casual fans I guess b/c most of them cant even get the fighter's names right. Ive heard some really jacked up versions of famous fighter's names like: Andrew Arlovski, George-ess St. Pierre, Lyoto Machado, Anderson Silver, Randy Coaster etc LOL!
Also, jacked up style names- My Tie (Muay Thai), Grafflin (Grappling), Jew Jutsu (jiu jitsu) etc.
I could only imagine the comical words that would be made up for certain submission techniques LOL!

I think it's a little wierd when they say winner by submission (or tapout) then the guy went to sleep. E.g. Hughes' arm-squeeze-thing. I'm pretty sure Almeida didn't tap...
^^^^ Hahaha! Very true! Rogan usually does a good job of explaining the technique that ended the fight, but you have to be in a place that's quiet enough to hear him.

Usually when a guy goes to sleep or the reff steps in (e.g. when Mir broke Tim Sylvia's arm) they call it a "technical submission" or when the reff makes a huge mistake (e.g. Danzig vs Wyman) reff thought Danzig was out and called the fight resulting in a technical sub.

No, I think it happens most often when it's a tricky submission. If people aren't immediately sure what to call it they just say the generic thing.
