In 1991 Richard Martinez was involved in a car accident that left him in a near-vegetative state. He was taken care of by his mother until she passed away, but now the responsibilities have been passed down to his son... Rad Martinez.
This Sunday ESPN will be airing the story of one of Utah's most promising Lightweight MMA fighters. Winner of the "Inspirational Fighter of the Year" award for the 2010 Utah MMA Awards. This is a story you don't want to miss. It's about sacrifice, determination and a promise one son made to his grandmother before she passed away.
"Outside the Lines" airs this Sunday, July 3, at 7am MST on ESPN and 8am ET on ESPN2. "SportsCenter" also airs the segment at 8am MST and 9pm MST on ESPN.
Rad Martinez was, current UFC Lightweight Champion, Frankie Edgars college roommate. He currently trains at the Academy in Orem with fellow Pit Elevated teammates Court McGee, TUF 11 winner, and Ramsey Nijem, TUF 13 finalist.
