Thiago Alves Misses Weight, Fined 20 Percent

According to the UFC, Alves was still unable to cut the additional 1/2 pound and will forfeit 20% of his purse for failure to make weight.
All other fighters made weight without any issue.

So now he has worn himself out trying to cut weight and he had to fight a grinder like Finch. Gonna be a long night for em!

If they don't cut him after this, he should really consider moving up to 185 lbs and be a smaller MW.

I assume the reason Thiago's team just took the penalty was so that he could stop cutting and still win the fight. I still think he's going to KO Fitch.

Alves would probably be stronger and better suited at MW. There are alot of guys that would opt to stand and bang with him which would suit his style better and make for some fan friendly fights as well. I could see Alves putting on some size and cutting from about 210lbs.

Alves vs Belcher, Wand, Leben...oh man. He's got way better match-ups at that weight. Plus Dana also essentially told him to move up to MW.
@TWB Alves' weight cut isn't the reason he lost, it was his skillset. However, it was a miserable fight and Fitch will never be the WW champ. The world hates his style. Except for about 13 wrestlers and people who hate Thiago, his fights are pretty universally panned. His only good fight was against GSP because St. Pierre stopped his takedowns. The Ultimate Wrestling Championship bores me, I'd rather watch the NCAA.
