Any Top 10 Overrated MMA list that doesn't have Kimbo Slice #1 is crap.

Okay - based off of what fights would you suggest that Fedor, Diaz, and Franklin deserve the hype that get?

I would hand it to Franklin a little bit more than the other two because he fought in a legit promotion for the majority of his career and took on a lot of decent guys.  I just feel that he had a lot more potential and didn't realize soon enough that he needed to train at a top level camp to be in the names of GSP, Anderson Silva, etc...

Like I said, a lot of your favorite fighters will be on the list because it wouldn't make sense to put Junie Browning on there... he's not rated to be overrated lol

So Big Nog and Crocop in their prime isn't real competition? Did you even watch MMA when Pride existed? Better yet who the fuck are you to criticize anybody fighting at that level?

No, Mirko "Cro Cop"is not considered real competition.  Cro Cop has the ground game of a typical Purple Belt.  Is Nogueira considered prime competition?  Yeah absolutely, my coach use to train with Nogueira every single day and I've heard just about every story possible about him.  Is he a (well he was anyway) Monster in the ring/cage/mats?  Absolutely.  Had Fedor competed with him outside of Pride FC and beat him I would take that into account.

Stories of people getting offered $60,000, $100,000 or more to throw a fight in the old days of Pride are not hard to come by if you're talking to the right people.  Thus I don't consider most of his wins in Pride noteworthy.  Pride used Fedor as a face to build their company off of.  Plain and simple.  Had they not it wouldn't have been so damn hard to get him to face real competition here in America.

Who am I?  Does it matter? If I don't list credentials I'm a poser, if I do I'm a liar trying to "prove" myself.  When CagePotato posts shit like this do you ask them "Oh who are you to judge these guys?!?!" - No probably not.

But since you asked - what sort of training have I done...

At five I started training a mix style of Karate and TKD.  By ten I was competing in full contact Karate Tournaments, and at 13 I got my Black Belt after winnning a tournament in the 13-16 year old division in Milwaukee with 15 different competitors. I moved out of state.

At 16 I trained about a year and a half in style of street self defense.

At 19 I started training with Jeff Perez in Boxing, and at Pat Miletich's gym in Bettendorf, Ia in Kickboxing. 2 1/2 years later I moved out of state...

And started training in TKD for three years, consecutively with BJJ.  Also during a year of that time I was training MMA under Wade Rome.

After leaving the TKD school I started training at Wade's place full time in BJJ and MMA.  2 years later I moved away, and he moved to Florida.  Now I have 2 kids, and three businesses so for the last 6 months I haven't had much time to train.

Your credentials may be better than mine, I don't know.  Either way it doesn't matter really - I have my opinion of fighters just like you do.  And I'm sure if they met me they would either think hey this guy isnt half bad or they would say wow this dude sucks balls. Either way... doesn't matter to me, just like Fedor probably doesn't give two shits what I think.

Fedor beat 3 former UFC Champs, Cro Cop, Big Nog, Mark Hunt (K1 GP champ), Semmy Schilt(K1 GP Champ) and Ricardo Arona(ADCC Champ)

Nick Diaz dominated BJ Penn and down right owned the strikeforce welter weight division.

Rich Franklin dominated the middle weight division and was the best middle weight in the UFC until Anderson Silva.

The top ten list that was provided has no logical arguements.  It is apparent that the poster is just trying to get hits on his website.  Looking at his LF Profile I find this jem, 'I'm also an Internet Marketer and work from home full time. If you want to start making 5 figures a month from home hit me up and I'll get you on my team and help you out. http://www.mat-quest.com", which leads me to the conclusion that he is a human spam bot.

To further my human spam bot claim here are links to other forums he has posted this article in.

To Fzeciri: When Fedor and Big Nog first fought, Fedor was a relative unknown and a huge underdog, while Nogueira at the time was the man of the heavyweight division. What kind of sense would that make? Also Cro Cop was beating Nog's childhood memories out of existence before he was armbarred, so how was he overrated? Have you seen any of the Cop's other fights in K1 or MMA? You really belong on Sherdog, so why dont you just take your asinine fallacies over there and drop your ludicrous slandering of legends. Thanks <middle finger>  Smile

I wasn't even going to post in this thread, but I will just to say that I believe MrBungle hit the nail on the head.

FYI - Cro Cop was never a UFC Champion, not sure what UFC you watched... I might post my articles around for people to view, but at least I don't make shit up.

Yeah I work from home, among other things.  I didn't realize writing an article made someone a "Spam Bot" - you didn't have to click on it if you didn't want to "just give my page pageviews".  You could have looked at it and said fuck this, but instead you went to the page to read, and then you investigated it further.

I make money just like you do everyday.  And the funny thing is I've helped three other Martial Artists be able to work from home full time and not let jobs get in the way of their training.  If you don't like it that's cool - I'm simply putting the opportunity out there to help people in that regard. Basically what you're saying is you're better than me because you have to go to a job to pay your bills instead of do it from your home?  Interesting...

And for the record, BJ Penn was on his way out before fighting Diaz, that's not impressive.  And to add to that the Strikeforce WW division is and was a joke. His fight against Condit proved that he doesn't have the ability to change his gameplan mid fight.

Putting links to your website with articles that you could've easily posted in the forum specifically to generate page hits is in and of itself spamming.  The article wasn't by anymeans objective or well thought out.  That would be spam.  I never once claimed to be better than you and if thats how you make you money good for you.  But don't get defensive when people say what it is.  This forum is full of a great group of guys and gals that help each other out a lot.  Recently it has been hit with loads of spam bots and now human spammers.  Quite frankly its annoying for this great website.

BJ Penn was on his way out?  He dominated the lw division until edgar, then moved up to KO Hugues and then fought to a draw with Jon Fitch in a very great fight.  Then lost to Diaz.  Just because he retired after the fight in no way means he was not a very game opponent.  The majority of your arguments don't have any actual fight merit its all criticism of their camps and personalities.  Hardly strong journalism there.

FYI- I never said Cro Cop was a UFC champ.  The 3 UFC HW champs I was referring to were, Arlovski, Silvia and Coleman.

OK, let's talk Fedor.

How 34-4 is overrated is beyond me.   Even if you are on undercards of UFC / PRIDE fights 34-4 would be pretty damn good.

From around 03-06 Sylvia and Arlovsky were ruling the UFC.   Fedor took care of them both in the 1st round.

He fought the best stand up guys and the best ground guys around and beat them all.

Now - if you wanted to make the argument that the HW division now has more talented fighters I'd probably agree.   But that doesn't make Fedor overrated.

Quite simply, the man did everything asked of him for the better part of a decade.

Swap him out for Cung Le.

Couldn't have said it better myself Bruce Leroy.  It baffles me how a lot of people dismiss what Fedor did.  And when his age and battle scars finally caught up with him they write him off even more.  It's crazy, that man is a legend and pioneer of modern MMA.

Fzeciri, if you're going to write a controversial article called "Top 10 Overrated MMA Fighters of All Time" and then include some of the sports greats on that list don't be surprised if someone disagrees with you.

Nobody is attacking you personally, only the content of your article. If you intend to post more of these kind of articles you'll need thicker skin.

Everyone has their own opinions on whos the Top 10 of this or that.  If you read the article you can see that it's not to say these guys are crappy fighters (with the exception of Kimbo lol), but that they were given more hype than they deserve.

Sure Rich Franklin was a champ in the middleweight division, but the competition wasn't nearly what it is today.  He's still getting the same hype he was back in the day despite the fact that he's not a significant threat to anyone in the top 5.

Yes Diaz dominated Strikeforce, but the organization didn't have any top 10 guys over there to challenge him.  The media and all his fans were hyping him up so when he came over to the UFC everyone expected him to do big things and he didn't.  He had a chance to fight the best welterweight of all time and blew it.  Sure he beat BJ Penn but he (Penn) has had a rough go of it as of late.  Sometimes he comes to fight and sometimes not.  BJ will always be one of the best in the sport but in his last 5 fights he went 1-3-1.  The BJ that Diaz beat was not the BJ of old who was knocking guys out left and right.  Then Diaz lost to Condit (which all of his fans will say is because Condit ran away).  The media and fans keep giving Diaz all of this hype when he doesn't deserve it.  Diaz wants to fight Silva, but how can you justify fighting the best in the world when you couldn't beat the best in the welterweight division?

As for Fedor, so what he beat Arlovski and Sylvia they were both past their prime (kicked out of the UFC) when he got to them.  When he fought top level guys in Strikeforce he got his ass handed to him.  Those were arguably the first real competition he had in a legit organization and he failed.  Is Fedor still a good fighter, sure, he just doesn't deserve all the hype he has been given.

I don't have any problems with people not agreeing with me - it's cool.  I've been training for close to 20 years or so now and I've disagreed with plenty of people along the way.  It just gets me a bit irritated to hear "oh who the fuck are you" speal.  I'm a man with an opinion like everyone else... lol isn't that good enough?  Nobody asks who the content writer is for cagepotato or mmaweekly, etc...

But anyway, none of that matters.  I didn't come here to "spam" or anything like that.  If I wanted to do that I would have just slammed this place with every article I have from all of my websites.  I've been coming here for the videos and articles for quite a while, the last thing I want to do is shit on lockflow guys.

Ronin- Arlovski was riding a 5 fight win streak prior to fighting Fedor. One of those wins being against Werdum, the man who beat Fedor. Arlovski wasnt cut from the UFC, he left.  Sylvia won 7 of his last nine fights only losing to couture and big nog. He also left the UFC he wasn't cut.  Both of them were in their prime when they fought fedor.  And with the exception of Randy Couture were the logical opponents for him seeing as they were the top two HW in the UFCs division.

BJ was still a game opponent, strikeforce had the best mw's outside of the UFC, yes Condit ran from Diaz, more than Guida ran from Maynard.

Fzeciri - Yes people question who the writers are for cage potato, mmaweekly, bleacher report etc all the time.

that actually is my exact reaction on the rare occasion i would actually read something from one of those stupid websites. i just picture someone whos never trained before wearing a stupidass affliction shirt and a dumb mohawk who thinks they know everything about fighting just by watching.now that isnt you apparently i guess the content of your article just doesnt jive with the respect i was brought up with at an early age in the martial arts, even hearing the audience boo a fighter disgusts me so i guess thats it. and as for diaz do you think he clearly lost the condit fight? that seems to be the only reason hes overrated to you but that was an arguable decision, i guess damage and aggression count to me more than most. i had him winning 1 2 and 5 as i remember it...

Am I the only one who noticed that there was some sort of super secret call for help here? Out of nowhere Ronin comes flying in and backs up Fzeciri.... And here are some great quotes to help open your eyes...

"Now I have 2 kids, and three businesses so for the last 6 months I haven't had much time to train."

"I've helped three other Martial Artists be able to work from home full time and not let jobs get in the way of their training."

" I didn't come here to "spam" or anything like that.  If I wanted to do that I would have just slammed this place with every article I have from all of my websites. "

Wow, I'm just glad that he is sooo humble! And to think, he's got all this success just by using the cut and paste functions, impressive!

Anyone who calls the HW GOAT overrated shouldn't be writing...period, it shows a complete lack of understanding of MMA.
