What did I learn at my 1st day of training?
Knee on belly HURTS like all hell. What did the rest of you find out that you didn't expect on your first day?
the kesa gatame escape can be followed with crippler crossface..
All forms of gi chokes. and i mean ALL.
it's possible for every muscle in your body to be sore....the next day was rough

+1 (and for a month after)...also, the proper way to get out of an armbar isn't to straighten your arm and try to pull out...that was a bad idea.
Don't expect to be so pretty after doing this for a while.
I learned that people will not get bored of Guillotining you every chance they get. So you better learn to defend it!
Leg kicks are a B*tch. (thanks Coach Show  )
that I could push myself harder than I thought
That grappling makes me fart.
That grappling makes me fart.
lol I'll remember that if we ever grapple
grappling on carpet = rug burns everywhere.
That I bruise easily.
That grappling makes me fart.
+1 lol and i learned that grappling is a way different type of cardio than i was previously used to
"This isn't like in the movies!?!"......comes to mind.
I was 8 when I started training.
I learned a very important mathmatical formula.
Wrestling shot with head up and to the side of the body = guillotine choke
I learned that we had quite a few cracks in the ceiling.
I learned that I need to take things slower and breathe more, also learned that my stupid ass needed to quit smoking lol
I can't even remember that far back to Karate but in Muay Thai I remember thinking I keep getting punched in the face..when I started in BJJ I remember thinking how much I sucked at grappling back then(not that I'm great now or anything). The only thing I had going for me in the muay thai gym I started at was that it was fairly new, so at the time, only the instructor had a lot of experience and I was able to "catch up" and "pass up" a lot of the students that started before me because I used to be a gym rat.

ditto... , oh and not to eat anything at least 2 hours prior to training... HORFF!
Strength can help make up for lack of experience and technique when trying to get a fight to the ground... it does NOT help once you get there.

Ditto!
I learned to tap a lot my first day.
I'll have to say I need to cut my hair, if not shave it all off, and also that I am just skinny not anywhere close to in shape, the hardest part about even going, any particular day for me is the fact I'm so sore from the previous work out I cant keep up with anyone......
Position before submission.
It's a lot harder fighting someone your own size.
Stop giving people my neck. And wear a cup, for crying out loud
Oh, and that I don't want to work out with the guy that doesn't wash his shin pads
Don't rush take your time and relex.

The basic collar choke is extremely efficient.
You can't breathe until you CHOKE!
