why i train................a sad story in my home town yesterday
a young school teacher at the age of 25 was shot and stabbed multiple times at a gas station here in town. in broad daylight (3pm) a former companion who began stalking her sometime back tracked her to the gas station and attacked her violently.
she wrestled a gun (pellet gun fortunately for her) away and tried to get back in her car. the stalker climbed in behind her stabbed her. sources close to her say her face, thighs, and she had MANY defense wounds on her arms. the only reason the attacker left is b/c he thought she was dead. bystanders watched it happen. the guy is still on the run and was last seen in SC.
she had been stalked for a while and had taken out multiple restraining orders, as well as going to the ER on several occasions for broken bones from his abuse. she feared so much for her safety her parents were taking her back and forth to her part time job as a HS science teacher. it took ER doctors close to 6 hrs to get her treated, stitched, and stable.
this is a sick sad world we live in and it only takes one psycho to change things. granted this was a stalker situation, but these type of events are somewhat common in my area. if you think it cant happen to you then think again. this young ladies life will never be the same b/c one person couldnt keep it together.
if you have a significant other or family then this story should hit home a little. stalker or not these personality types are everywhere.
pray this young lady makes it through. pray for justice to be served. continue training hard every day my friends because it CAN happen to you.
Some of my female friends here at Ohio State often ask me to go with them if they ever need to run an errand after sundown, and no matter how much stuff I have to do I never say no. We're an open campus and it's not like we're unsafe or anything, but when the weather's good we do get crime alerts weekly or biweekly. Most of them could have been prevented if people were just traveling in pairs or kept up on some basic self-defense for an hour or so a few days a week.
This, along with the bullying thread, always amazes me that there really are no laws in place for basic stalking. Restraining orders don't really seem to do anything so someone can threaten and threaten all they want without really having any reprecussions. If this girl had went after the guy she would have got in trouble. So she waits and then gets attacked. Had you heard about this and went to beat the guy up you would get in trouble.
Same with bullying. A bully can go after someone over and over. But if they don't actually do physical harm in most cases nothing will be done.
It's like a bad movie.
Every state does have a stalking law. It can be hard to prove stalking cases, but the laws are out there. Restraining orders make prosecution easier but, in my experience, don't serve as much of a deterrent. A person with a mindset to be a stalker is not going to be dissuaded by something as trivial (in their mind) as a law.
My company sometimes offers some pro bono protection to stalking/domestic violence victims. The problem is that, even in the cases we take, we can only afford to do so much (usually standing by while one or the other person moves out).
These are complex issues, even when the resources are available. Personal protection training, awareness, and a good support network all help, but there are no easy answers.
I feel for the teacher in the original post. Unfortunately, incidents like that are an all too frequent occurrence.

I guess i should have said "no laws that really work" instead of no laws. Agreed with what PTBeast said. Proving that someone is stalking and a menace can prove difficult.
Man, that guys brother sounds like a real peach too! I love the quote where he says he bailed his brother our, new he wasn't right and needed help. Then why didn't you help him!!!! Get him some treatment or some meds or something. (of course I know that I don't know the whole story.)
"How in the world can you say someone attempted to murder somebody?” Oh, I don't know, maybe the 11 stab wounds were some indication of his intent?

I was seeing a girl for a while that was a dancer (not a stripper). She had done backup for some pretty big R&B groups, and worked with one of the top hip-hop choreographers. She was in school for business/accounting stuff, and had intentions of opening her own dance school in a few years.
Some ex-bf came to her job after she closed up one night, and kicked her, managing to break her ankle. She got a restraining order, and I don't think we ever heard from him when I was seeing her, but that could be a real quick way to ruin her career/dreams.
It sucks when that stuff happens. I wish people could just break up and move on. No one is worth all of that.
"I might not just come at him with an arm bar or a kimura. I may come at him with a rear naked clam jam, chuckle berry handshake, or a triple decker pecker wrecker. He's not gonna have an answer for a triple decker pecker wrecker, I guarantee it."
