Travis Tooke is one of only a handful of non-Brazilians to achieve the rank of Black Belt from Carlos Gracie Jr. and at only 23 years of age, became one of the youngest BJJ Black Belts in the United States. Tom is mounted on top of Travis
Travis stretches his left leg and places his right elbow under Tom’s leg to create space. He uses his elbow to push open Tom’s leg as he starts to free his leg to the half guard.
Travis escapes to half guard and immediately turns to his right to avoid being flattened
He now works to free his right leg
After freeing both legs, he returns to the closed guard

A must know but the discription is vague and missing some basic key points.
It is not necessary to give everything all the time.
Instead we must realise the critical moments and give it all then.
If he's going to be doing basics like this it'd be nice if he offered some new insight or better details.

Good point... the discription is vague. Not alot of explaination on how the technique works.
Alot of the Travis Tooke techniques are like that, but they are the foundation of the ground game.
I rate by how useful a technique is. Do you guys rate on the article itself??
no doubt, the elbow escape is fundamental.
i look at the article from the point of, if i didnt know the tech could i learn from the article and use it effectivly, the answer in this case is, imo a no.
i rate the article and the technique, sometimes the article is rubbish, but the tech is good, and sometime the article is good but the tech is rubbish

the given description of the escape is basically: put leg flat, push their leg with your elbow, take leg out, take other leg out.. now you have guard.
which is complete bullshit. the tech doesn't work unless you do some key things correct, none of which are in the description.

ummm, i'm not sure. so are u suppose to force ur left leg out to get into the half guard?

I love this. Next we are going to have a technique for taking mount from side control. Photo 1: guy in side control. Instruction: Put your leg over your opponent. Photo 2: a guy in full mount. Brilliant.
