Half Guard Sweep to Back Control

Here is a nice move when some stops your half guard sweep.

  • Starting in half guard
    • You start off in half guard with you outside leg hooked in (knee on the outside)and your top arm under hooking.
  • Begin your sweep
    • Begin your sweep, grab your opponents knee with your bottom hand, turn towards the sweep, lift your hook and sweep...
  • Blocking the sweep
    • Your opponent blocks the sweep by bridging out his arm.
  • Begin your counter
    • VERY IMPORTANT: you must keep your sweeping leg up during this part of the move! While your opponent is bridging out slip your head inside towards his knee...
  • Lift his knee
    • With your opponents leg still elevated from the sweep, pick up the knee on the ground and place it over your leg (moving your leg towards the knee).
  • Turn in
    • Now you can drop your sweeping leg and turn inward towards your opponent...
  • You now have the back
    • You now have the back!
