Side Control to Arm Triangle
![]() |
Here is an arm triangle set up that I use all the time from side control. In the video I'll show the move, then break it down, then show it one more time. Helping me out is LockFlows own Kevinlace.
-
Side Control
-
Step over
-
Opponent grabs your leg
-
Opponent pushes your leg off
-
Under his head
-
Clasp your hands
-
Squeeze for the submission
Staring off in side control; make sure your right arm in under your opponents left armpit and you have control of his right arm.
Keeping your right hip on the mat, step over your opponents head with your outside (left) leg. You want him to be thinking armbar.
Naturally; your opponent will grab your leg to take it off his head...
As your opponent pushes your leg off, your left arm will go over the arm that is pushing the leg...
and then feed your left arm under his head...
Clasp your hands and start to turn back to traditional side control on your knees.
When squeezing for the submission try to apply the presser closer to the elbow then the ball of the shoulder for a quicker submission.

We call this move the "Howdy", and it is gold.
The "Howdy"... I like it
This is a great set-up for the howdy. I think I saw it on the front page a few years ago. I've been using the howdy to set up the brabo, and this is an awesome entry.
Another great technique. Keep them coming!
