  • Step 1
  • Michael (blue) is being controlled by his opponent's (white) spider guard in which both feet are on the biceps.
  • Step 2
  • Michael takes his left leg and steps on his opponent's left thigh by the knee.
  • Step 3
  • While pinning the opponent's leg down with his foot, Michael pulls his right arm back which removes his opponent's grip from his sleeve.
  • Step 4
  • The opponent's right foot only has the ability to control if Michael were to move around to his opponent's left side. So, Michael walks backwards, circling to his opponent's right side as he holds on to his opponent's gi pant with his left hand. Michael is not just turning his body, but actually walking backwards and will take as many steps as needed for the opponent's right foot-on-bicep control to begin to slide off.
  • Step 5
  • Once the opponent's right foot slides off and Michael is close to the side of the opponent's body, Michael turns and faces his opponent. Michael is still holding onto the right gi pant with his left hand as Michael's right knee begins to come through in order to eastablish the knee-on-stomach position.

  • Step 6
  • Michael has passed the spider guard and has the knee-on-stomach position.
