Arm Bar/Hug combo from arm drag
This is a nice little combo off the arm drag from your guard, sometimes when you armdrag your opponent, they will lift their head to stop you from going to their back, this is the scenario on this series.

Eddie is in my closed guard, both of my hands gripping Eddie’s wrists
I reach my right arm over my left wrist and reach behind Eddie’s right tricep so that Eddie’s right hand is under my right armpit
Using my legs and right grip to pull, I pull Eddie’s right arm deeper into my right armpit
I place my left forearm across Eddie’s face and shave it away from the trapped arm
I open my legs as I start to work my right leg into Eddie’s left armpit
I pivot to the right to get a better angle on Eddie’s head
I throw my left leg over Eddie’s head, careful to get the back of my left knee deep around Eddie’s neck
From here, I could go for a Arm drag armbar by squeezing my knees and pulling my heels in and arching my hips but instead…

I reach my right hand under Eddie’s left arm so that the thumb side of my wrist is just above Eddie’s elbow
I continue to roll my right hand inward and across to my left. Putting pressure on Eddie’s elbow
As I pull Eddie’s left arm to the right side of my neck I grip my right wrist with my left hand, I squeeze my knees together, pull down on my grip on Eddie’s elbow as I do a sit up type motion with my upper body to finish the submission.

that's a great arm bar set up for a slippery no gi opponent. Very solid move, but you have to be disciplined b/c most people will just try to go for the back once you cleared the arm. But i think this arm bar is a higher percentage sub once you get to this point in the move. But of course you won't get any back points if you fail.
I like the finishing armbar in step 7. People that are in a back mount going for a RNC and get shook off to the side have the opponents arm stuck across their body like this alot. Great time to use this (far side)"Qiuck armbar".
The straight armbar is usually hard to get, but not from this set up. It keeps his shoulders in the right position so he can't turn his trapped arm over and escape the lock. Great Combo technique, Chaz!!!
"so he can't turn his trapped arm over and escape the lock."
Well... so he can't turn it as easily.
I like this set up a lot. From what I have done with it I have had a great amount of success with it, but like Ultraman said, takes some disiplin.

Nifty. I call the Arm Hug a Cheese Grater since I start upward and pull down; as he tries to pull his arm free it makes it that much more painful. 8-o
Got one question though. Every time I try grabbing the arm and then reaching for the lat - as in steps 2-5 - then my opponent knows what I trying (and armbar or triangle, or this) and counters. How do you prevent that?
"If the path is set in stone, use a sledge-hammer."
Quantum, in this series we are going for the arm drag and they posture up to prevent you from getting their back, it is in the instant that You should attack the arm.
I've never tried this (and no one is here for me to practice on) but I always like being close. I roll with someone who outweighs me by 65 lbs. Would this be easier than a more straight forward armbar?
Thank you Jesus for Martial arts!
great move !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
One of my guys is really fast and gets out of an armbar very quickly unless I use this move....one of my favorites.
Everyone has a plan till they get punched in the face - Mike Tyson.
This is a beautiful submission
Very nice and suprisingly deceptive. Also works very well with the gi.

great move, i like the deception! i'm gonn try it next week. thanks
Do I wanna fight?
Hell yeah I wanna fight!
i find 'slicing' the arm in the final step does more damage...
The strong man is not the one who wrestles, but controls himself in a fit of rage.

we just learned that technique today
If you dont win, atleast be able to say you raised HELL!!!
this is a nice sub. haha....seems like u can go for an omoplata. I wonder if that right arm would get in the way.
I dont Walk, I pull the earth towards me with my feet.
nice set up love armdrag moves
but yes this will cause a oma like run around and you will lose the drag easy
I like the set-up a lot. Nice old skool pic.
