Armbar from side mount

Joseph Garza has donated this and other techniques from his site at Josepgh Garza's Submission Page Stop by site and check it out. Here, Joseph demonstrates the Armbar From The Side Mount

  • Step 1
  • I have my opponent in a side mount. His arm wraps over my low shoulder. This means his arm is below my head according to his head, being the top.
  • Step 2
  • Place your right knee on your opponent's stomach. Tie off his left arm with your right by wrapping it around his. For a good tie off try to stay as far below his elbow as possible. Then grab your opposite shoulder.
  • Step 3
  • Place your left knee in the side of your opponent's head and sit up with good posture. Try to straighten your back. Tombstone his left arm with both of your arms.
  • Step 4
  • Turn your hips and torso toward your opponent's head.
  • Step 5
  • Step over his head with your right leg, place your foot infront of his neck. Use the ball of your left foot to pivot. Pinch your knees together. Keep his palm facing away from you.
  • Step 6
  • To finish pull his head to your butt with your right leg. Sit back and shift your hips toward the sky.

I usually go the other way to attack the far arm. I step over the head, place my foot behind the shoulder, pivot on my toes (or ball of the foot) and just sit into a one leg armbar.
This seems kinda risky. I don't like to put my center over my opponents torso. Scared I'd get rolled.
Looks like it would be alittle awkward to step from the ribs all the way over his head with the right foot.

I personally have never attacked the arm this way...

seems like spinning around the head the other direction would be a little quicker, and just go for the "japanese style" arm bar with one knee bent and the other either over his face or below the arm/shoulder.

Ya, to attack the far arm for an armbar, I'd spin over the head, not the body...

Maybe if you added a few steps, trap the arm, go to mount, arm bar from there.

But moving over the body like that is going to get you in trouble.

I personally rather spin over the head.

If I have the position of step 3 or 4 I'll just go for the straight armbar. Easy, pretty high percentage.

I'd have to agree with mattemate on this on. If you have the inverted armbar why give it up?

Years of useless knowledge finally being utilized.
