Nothing is more frustrating than losing a leg lock. Most of the time that means giving up position. So leg lock recovery is crucial to your leg lock game.

  • 1
  • you went for a leg lock and wasn't able to close it
  • 2
  • as he mounts you, slip your left (far) arm in and grab your bicep
  • 3
  • bridge over your right (near) shoulder and slip out the back
  • 4
  • (from different angle) He mounted you after a failed leg lock
  • 5
  • slip your far arm in and grab your bicep
  • 6
  • bridge over your right shoulder and slip out the back
  • 7
  • keep hold of the leg as you finish your roll
  • 8
  • if he rolls facing you, slip back into your initial leg lock attempt

THAT was beautiful!

Hey Kris, do you always bend the leg with a that far arm using an underhook while holding/pinching the leg with the other hand? I have never seen that, but it looks slick. How does it perform vs. pinching the ankle while holding the knee with the same side arm and using the far arm to reach behind the knee and pull towards the far side?

well,Enigmachrysalis,it,s a peculiar thing. My coach Eddy showed me the reverse grip as a way to bend the leg when in tight spots,it,s also a very powerful grip when the guy refuses to tap.I started playing around with it and found plenty of use for it. I personally prefer it to the grip (although very good)you described,I find it stronger.

haha, kris i kid you not. yesterday i taught that part about retaining the ankle grip during full mount and swimming through the legs to recover!

its fantastic. and it solidifies how important it is not to bail on the ankle lock grip even when you lose leg control.

good stuff!

that is a thing of beauty.

Kris: I did a tech like that with the bend of the knee in a seminar to the anklelock. instead of going under i went over to bend. THAT SH*T IS AWESOME!! KRIS

Reilly, I knew I had seen that escape out the back door recovery before!
Kris, I see what you mean on how that underhook lets you apply a reverse grip on the ankle lock, which I have used to great effect on the ground, but never into it as an entry as it never occurred to me until you just suggested it. Nice.
Since you and Reilly are apparently watching this, what's your preferred method of making space to hook the leg for the ankle lock if you don't wrap it before you enter. Basically, how do you get your hand in between their leg and yours?

a slight shrimp usualy does the job

A simple answer, my favorite!

that looks like it can become a great drill to do, thanks Kris.

天下無難事,只怕有心人

worked on this with a few of my guys in class, and one of the guys hit it while free rolling!! - nice!

Glad you enjoy it Chaz Wink

and yeah Tank,we work it as a drill during leg lock practice.

I love this move. Learned it from Reilly's DVD... now when I screw up a leg lock I end up with another attempt or a pass to side control.

Actually, I got knee stomped in the head once while doing it on a college wrestler. He kind of panicked and pinched his knees together while turning and dropping in order to keep my head from passing underneath him.

Ive been drilling the far arm pry ever since I first saw your video on here, now I can just add this to it. Thanks.

So excellent. Mount escape + leg lock setup = turning a frown upside down.

Thanks

The world ends when you're dead. Until then, there's more punishment to come. So stand it like a man and try to give some back.

The irony...I just showed this to a group at a seminar in Arkansas. Great technique to retain a leglock or recover.

Sweet !!!
