Combat Sambo: sitting kneebar re-counter
![]() |
this is a cool technique shown to me by Stephen Koepfer (sambosteve on the forums.)
this can be done gi or no gi, but its easier with the jacket.
if you try a single leg kick-up throw, or uchi-mata, or pod vhat (whatever language you use to say throw names) and you find your self bouncing around on one foot and unable to finish the throw, this is a cool re-counter to a submission.
-
the failed throw
-
the wrap
-
the swing
-
begin to sit
-
the kick up
-
the lock
you tried for your kick-up throw but you are both just bouncing around on one foot and he isn't going to go down.
wrap your high leg around his leg while it is still in the air.
bend your knee and swing your leg back through to the front. it is important to bend your knee so his foot doesn't touch back down on the ground. keep your wrap tight so his leg has to come with yours.
stretch your leg (and subsequently his leg) far in front of you and sit strait down. keep control of his collar with your other hand.
once you hit the floor you need to roll back and kick your leg up to your hand and grab his leg.
while keeping control of his jacket (if he has one) with your other hand, lace your far leg around to make sort of an x-guard shape over his free leg to keep him from rolling. apply the knee bar while keeping his foot on the far side of your head. this will help keep it strait.

Nice...seems to flow well into that transition to knee bar. I'm gunna try tonight!

Reilly, looks good. But, I would change the finishing position of your right leg. It is not very secure and is available to your opponent for attack. It is much harder to secure his thigh with your leg in that position. I would go with the typical control of his free leg (in the calf crush position).

i agree with Sambosteve... i think the calf-crush finish would be a lot more secure, but i love the technique regardless. At my level (extremely beginner), any technique can cause a tap.
Sweet I've tried this and never got it and couldn't figure out why. Now I know exactly why. Thank you very much!!!
Courage does not always roar. Sometimes courage is the quiet voice at the end of the day saying "I will try again tomorrow"
steve, you just dont know about my new leg lock position called the "MMA Jockstrap." its all the rage, and you can buy my 5 dvd set on it if you want to learn more about this sweet lower left half position game i just made up.
but seriously, i know what your saying. i will reshoot it and edit this later.
I like it. Could be thrown into a failed hip throw or a ochi mata takedown.
Nice little transition there, good work!
Gotta some stuff on here soon!
LOL @ MMA Jockstrap. You have some "balls"
