The Fighting Photographer gives us this great attacking the back option off the the turtle position:

here is the vid, with the step by step below:

  • Typical 1
  • Basic control from the back, quickly pull out opponents knee and get ready to take back
  • Typical 2
  • Put in the hook and switch to over/under grip with the arms
  • Typical 3
  • Typically, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu would dictate that you get the other hook in and get the 4 points position
  • Step 1
  • However, my opponent is experienced enough to know that would usually be my goal so she brings the arm back to kill the space and limit my chances of getting the second hook in
  • Step 2
  • Instead of going for the hook, I step straight over the shoulder and roll to my left side
  • Step 3
  • Control the arm and start to close the triangle
  • Step 4
  • Close the triangle from behind
  • Step 5
  • Pressure for the submission
  • Step 6
  • Take the arm bar if preferred

wow very slick move thanks for sharing it with us Laughing out loud

Courage does not always roar. Sometimes courage is the quiet voice at the end of the day saying "I will try again tomorrow"

I liked it! But the defender can't catch the leg easy and roll you down?

hard sparring session is like a cold shower in a warm day. It feels good.

funny, i was working on takedowns with a good greco roman guy the other day and we got to this off of sprawling in your opponent, spin drill, hook in and, instead of getting the other hook in, just launching them
i hit it in practice later that afternoon...it does catch people by surprise!
thanks for the add!

Nice to see this up, full credit goes to my instructors who are on the YT and pix, darren and Helen Currie of Combat Base UK who came up with the material, I merely took the pix!!

that is what the ground game is all about! sick technique!

Nice tech! Two quick questions, though:
1) In Step 2, do you have the harness on her?
2) If not (or even if yes), should you grab your left ankle with your right hand as you start falling over?
