As a professional Mixed Martial Artist and pro-Boxer, Erin Toughill has solidified herself as one of the top female fighters in the game. With permission from Erin and taken from her site at ErinToughill.com In this technique, Erin demonstrates the Knee Trap Knee Bar

  • Step 1
  • The first pic is defense from a head and arm choke. Maybe Erin tried to shoot and take her opponent down. He sprawls - and as they standup, he has Erin in the head and arm choke. This is a move that needs to be done RIGHT away so that your opponent can not get a even tighter hold around the choke. Erin feels that she is in a bad position and that he is trying to choke her...
  • Step 2
  • Erin's right arm is in the choke. Since that is the case - it will be her RIGHT hand that will go UNDER and ACROSS her own face so that she can grab her opponent's RIGHT tricep.
  • Step 3
  • @ the SAME time she does this - she spins her RIGHT leg around (and behind her) so that she ends up next to her opponent. WHILE she is spinning around - her RIGHT hand will now slide down to grab her opponent @ the elbow and her LEFT hand will grab under/near his armpit. She HAS to have a firm grip on her opponents arm while trying to keep it as close to her chest as possible....
  • Step 4
  • The firm grip and closeness of the move will dictate where the rest of the move goes. Erin presses her LEFT shoulder behind her opponents RIGHT shoulder. As she holds his arm close to her chest - she SHOVES him forward with her shoulder. As Erin tries to make him fall forward....
  • Step 5
  • His natural reaction will be to push BACK the way he came so that he can straighten up. When she FEELS him doing that - She simultaneously throws the arm up....
  • Step 6
  • ...drops - and goes for a single leg takedown.
  • Step 7
  • She gets a firm grip behind his knee and tries to keep her body as close to his leg as possible. She also pushes the top of her head into his ribcage to make it even more difficult to keep his balance.
  • Step 8
  • She spins her opponent backwards and completes the takedown. Erin's RIGHT arm goes underneath his LEFT leg while applying a trianlge hold on his knee. Erin presses the hips DOWN on top of his knee while curling her legs UP towards her head (somewhat like a hamstring curl) The knee bar is applied - and Erin can assure you your opponent WON'T be smiling if you get them in this!

The knee bar works, we've gone over it at La Mecque but from a different entry off a different escape. I'm not to sure about escaping like that, from that hold. Opponent isn't giving much energy to allow that much movement to set up that knee bar.

Yeah, I agree. I know the submission can work, and even the takedown, but I am not super excited about that pass on the arm.

I like the submission, even if it has a low hit rate (hard to get) but everything prior, hmmmm.

yeap..i dont want the opponent to mess up my hair... =p

The strong man is not the one who wrestles, but controls himself in a fit of rage.
